Slick setup?

I am trying to keep my 97 snake as stock as possible but as everyone knows it will spin the tires damn near 50mph with very little done to the engine. Instead of putting larger 18" rims on the car i would like to just jump to the end and put some slicks on the rear, but i have never purchased or used slicks before. As for the rim i was looking for something cheap like the black aluminum cragars, about 40 bucks a pop, and the slicks i was looking at were mickey t's around 170 a piece, but do they require tubes? If anyone has a slick setup on their cars that is affordable with the right bolt pattern please share it with me, thanks.

There's only a few cheap wheels out there that will fit the stock brakes...

American Racing makes a steel wheel that fits, and that's about the only 15" wheel that I know that fits...


Now if you don't mind grinding on the calipers you can make just about anything fit back there...

try some of the new mickey thompson drag radials. I have never driven on them, but they feel like an eraser in density, probably wouldn't last too long on the streets though. I'm not sure what or if they make a perfect size for 17x8's, but they do for 17x9's. might want to read up on axle strength before you launch a factory rearend with slicks. and the 18's won't help in the traction dept, although they look better. good luck

I back this. My friend has 275-40-17 M/T ET streets on 17X9 wheels. He pulls 1.7's on a stock 03 GT vert. with a built rear end and beefed transmission.
