What to do with my crashed v6

Back in May I got into a minor... well somewhat minor accident with my 1994 V6 stang. I had just done a headgasket job on it not a month before as well as installed a new transmission. Interior is perfect, front bumper was scratched but I was going to replace it and sell the car, until, of course, I crashed it.

Anywho the crash was strong enough for both airbags to deploy, even though the impact was on the driverside front. Maybe the impact was at about 35mph, after sliding for 55 feet begging my ABS to work. They refused.

Now I'm wondering if I should fix the car, which would require me to replace everything up to the radiator, and the two huge shafts that hold the entire front bumper, they run backwards into the frame. I'm not sure if they're bolted in or welded, haven't looked yet. Then I'd need the actual front bumper and a driverside panel, and a damn good alignment.

The hood wasn't killed in the impact, paint just came off, it was mostly on the side, it pushed my battery support into one of the pulleys, just to the point where the pulley woudl slightly touch it, but after i ran the car for a minute it carved it's self some space.

The airbags also caused my rearview mirror to crack my winshield (FFS)

So should I fix it or part it out, if I do fix it I assume it'll be 1 grand, give or take, then i'd only be able to sell it for 2k-2.5k im guessing.

I can part it out, like i said i redid the heads on the motor, got them rebuild heliarched (blew the head gaskets) cleaned and shaved slightly. Tranny is ****in fantastic, everything is great on the car, but I don't think I'd sell the ****in parts, who the hell buys 94 v6 parts? Atleast this is what I think

So in conclusion, my question is, how will i make more money, fix it and sell it or part it out.

As far as insurance goes, the case still hasn't gone to court I've been in and out of doctors since May. We were both at fault because i was 5mph over teh speed limit, and she violated my right of way thus both insurances refuse to pay and are trying to sneak out of it. When it does go to court, and if I do fix the car, I can show them receipts from all of the work that was done so I can be compensated for it. Ideas please? :(

First off, welcome to stangnet. Now you said that it's going to cost around a grand to fix. I think it might cost alittle bit more than that to fix. Maybe $1500. As for parting it out, I think that there are people who are going to be looking for parts for V6 stangs, but I don't know how high the demand it( it think it's probably low). Are you sure you can't get any insurance money? I would guess that other than you going 5 miles above the speed limit, she was at fault. If so, then your both at fault, but her fault is greater than hers. If you would sue her the judge would find in your favor(if your able to prove everything) and the judge would say something like, She was 95% at fault and you were 5% at fault. Then they would just deduct 5% of the amount that you were sueing for. Also, did she get a ticket? Got any pics? Good Luck and I hope you feel better. :)

This is before

It's taking so long for this court thing to even BEGIN, let alone finish! Actually my lawyer must take care of something beforehand, I was written a citation for reckless driving when I really shouldn't have gotten cited so harsh for something so minor. So once she gets that out of the way I assume we will begin the actual court case.

Of course when I said 'Fix my self' I meant going to the junkyard and taking parts from another 94 stang, for the most part atleast, as far as bumper, headlights, grille, fenders, etc So I won't be paying full price

Well, just looking at it, here's my "guesstimate"

Fender $250 (w/o paint)
Headlamp support $200
Headlight $100
Corner lamp $75
Core support $150
Bumper cover $299
Metal bumper reinforcement $100
Airbags $400
Airbag module $200
Airbag sensors $250

You do the math.........

That doesn't look as bad as it could have been. Alot of body damage and such. I'm still having a hard time understanding how this accident happened. Did she turn into you? Did you both get tickets? If you were going 5 above the speed limit, that wouldn't be considered reckless driving. Heck, I don't think they would have been really able to tell that you were going 5 miles above at the accident site.

Actually from the math, Square root of (30*distance*drag factor) = 33.985 mph Now I compensated an approximate drag factor for dry asphault. Depending on what your actual speed was, if you said it was 35 mph, then you were going about 68.9 mph. Is that reckless......I don't think so....but I guess it's the officer's opinion. Now if your brakes weren't working efficiently, and only had, say 50% braking efficiency, that would further lower the drag factor, lowering your speed, by the officer's calculations.

Where are you located? What state? I have a police officer "technical crash manual" that may be able to help. If you got a copy of the crash report, specifically the diagram and measurements, I could do a workup for you and let you know what I come up with

It was a residential area, somewhat curvy roads, 3 lanes for me in my direction, a median, and 3 lanes in the other direction. Not including turn lanes. She was in the turn lane , opposite direction of which i was moving. I was in the right most lane, I saw her start pulling out so i moved to the left lane, thinking it'd be safe and that she'd see me. She blocked that lane too and then i went to the next left lane which was the last one, and i saw she wasnt stopping, slammed on the brakes, i mustve been goin 35-40mph when i slammed on the brakes, they locked up immediately and i went sliding for 58 feet or so the office said. She was crossing all 3 lanes so the front side of her car slammed into the corner of mine, well i slammed into her.

The problem is, a few stoplights back a witness saw me launch off the line, i went up to 50mph and cruised the rest of the way. When he finally got to the crash he told the cops i was going 80mph. He didn't even see the crash he just saw me take off of a stoplight.

Cop first told me I was doing 60mph, I asked her to measure the marks assuming I was going 35mph right where the marks start, then she wrote on the report that i was doing 40-45mph, which i really wasnt, i just didnt slow down because i thought she'd see me.

Thoes prices you showed me are for brand new **** though, junkyard is a swell place!

that sucks alot... i got rear ended in april and my car was totalled as well. i had an 01 v6. it was really bad because the guy who hit me was driving a rental, and first they wherent sure who was going to pay the rental car company or this guys insurance company. anyway, they first though my car wasnt totalled and theywhere going to fix it. ordered parts etc. they started taking off parts and realized their was more damage then they thought. they called in my insurance company again and they said it was totalled. i ended up buying the car from the insurance company for like under a grand and recieving the amound of money that it would have been to fix the car. i then sold the car wrecked. i sold the wrecked car for 3,800. i ended up getting more money for the car then i payed for it a year before. i dont recomend parting the car out because this is a lot of work and u wont really make any money out of it. i live in the bay area and here at least their are plenty people with body shops who will fix the cars themselves and then sell them or drive them themselves. they make money, u make money they sell the car cheaper as well...everyone wins. gl with all the stuff....i also whent through about 4 months of physical therapy etc...

I would have seriously questioned the credibility of the witness. How old were they? Did the cop know they didn't see the crash? Where did they learn to estimate speed based on sight alone? Where they more focused on your driving, or their own?

Something tells me the cop didn't believe this witness entirely. Assuming she had half a brain, she'd think of the same questions I just stated. Your attitude also dictates the amount of credibility they give witnesses who place blame on you.

When I got into an accident almost a year ago, since it was old out and being the nice person I am, I offered him to sit in the stang for a while to get away from the cold(I made sure he wasn't going to be able to steal it before I offered). Anyways when my sister came back(long store) she realized that she couldn't find $100 that she had in her purse. And before she came the witness "disappeared". So it looks like that he stole it. The thing is, that my sister is retarted and she wasn't even sure if she had that with her. She was suppost to put it in her purse, but maybe she forgot

How much do you like the car? My car was hit in the same spot when I bought it. I dont think that it would cost too much if you by aftermarket body parts or parts from junk yards. Just depends on if you really like the car I guess.
