I take the plunge tomorrow

After dreaming about buying a Mustang ever since they came out last year, I am finally ready to go get one for myself. I have an appointment at a local Ford dealership for tomorrow, which means I could be 24 hours away from having my very own Pony!

As for what I plan on getting, I finally decided to go for broke and purchase a GT. I considered the V6 strongly, but when it came right down to it, I didn't want to have any regrets about what I "could have had".

At first I didn't think I'd be able to get one off the lot, but I just re-checked the dealer's inventory and they now have about 10 GTs on the lot (last week they only had 3). So, assuming they give me a fair deal on my trade-in, I could have my keys tomorrow!

I've got X-Plan through my work, so there shouldn't be much negotiating other than the value of the trade-in. I've already got 30K lined up from the bank, so I'm good there.

Full report tomorrow night, either way. And maybe some pics! :nice:

right on, one thing to consider is that they might really under cut you on your trade in because of the xplan. i chose to sell mine privately because of it. Just thought i would mention it. congrats.

Yes, I will be watching out for this.

For some reason, I used to actually give car salesmen the benefit of the doubt, thinking that they simply couldn't be as bad as they're portrayed in movies and jokes. Haha... yeah, I was naive.

Anyways, now that I KNOW that they're indeed low-life bottom feeders (mostly), I have no illusions that they'll probably try to low-ball me on the trade-in. Which is why I'm ready with the ultimate consumer response: to walk out, which I will do if they try to screw me.

Will they let you use x-plan on a car on the lot? Nobody around here would so I ordered mine.

Good luck and let us know either way.

I'm not sure if they'll let me buy one off the lot using the X-Plan. I emailed the salesman and told him I wanted a GT and that I had X-Plan and he responded saying that he had a couple on the lot they would "consider" selling.

He probably means the two Lime Green ones they have. :notnice:

You will be very happy with the GT! Congrats! But what's wrong with Legend Lime?!?!?!? :D

Haha! I knew there'd be some Lime fans on here!

Well, nothing's wrong with the color except I just don't like it. In fact, I had real trouble trying to decide which color I wanted.

It doesn't really matter though... I'll most likely end up having it painted anyways.

They're going to try to work you on your trade-in value. At least, they did with me. Don't let them rush you, you've got all the time in the world as the buyer.

Good luck! You'll love the car.

dont trade your car in

sell your car to a private party and if you can't do that...take it to CARMAX...I'm serious. CARMAX gave me $1500 OVER kelly blue book trade in value on my 2002 grand prix gt...the dealer can't give you anything when they are taking xplan...

You could do worse than Lime Green ..... just get the Black interior / you'll love it!

Well, I guess I will have to learn to love it! In a somewhat ironic twist, that's exactly what I ended up getting: a Lime Green GT! :D

The dealer had two GTs on the lot that he was willing to sell at the X-Plan price. One was Torch Red and the other Lime Green. I looked at both and decided that the Green wasn't actually so bad and decided to go with that one. I'm gettin' used to it!

I actually got lucky, in the sense that the salesman said that they normally do not sell GTs off the lot for X-Plan price. He said usually they'll only do that for ordered GTs. So I had the choice of waiting a couple months or of getting one right now. After a year and a half of waiting, I decided I didn't want to wait anymore. Besides that, I wasn't sure which color I wanted anyways, not being impressed very much by any of the stock colors. I already assumed I was going to paint it, so getting the Green isn't that big a deal (although the paint inside the engine compartment will make things difficult). Whatever color is on the outside, what's on the inside still produces 300 horses, so who the *?&$ cares?!

Breakdown:
2006 GT Premium (MSRP 26,320)
Automatic Transmission (995)
Anti-theft (295)
Wheel Locks (50)
IUP (450)
Side airbags (370)
17" bright machined wheels (195)
Destination charge (695)
MSRP Total: 29,370
X-Plan price: 27,166

And, oh yeah, they actually gave me a good deal on my trade-in. It was the easiest car-buying experience I've ever had.

Here's a Factory Five Cobra in Legend Lime. Looks pretty good.

That's a sweet lookin' ride! Is it just me or is my green a little lighter than the green on that car? Maybe the black stripes make that green look darker.

I will have to decide whether to paint this baby or whether to go with stripes. Black is an obvious choice, but I also think a darker shade of green (like a forest green) would look good as well.

Thanks for all the congratulations. It's awesome to finally be a part of the Mustang "club" and to know what you guys mean when you speak with such awe regarding this car. It's my very first Mustang and I am completely in love! :)
