Can't get over my V8 envy.

What amazes me is that the only way YOU can "talk up" a GT is by "knocking down" a V6. Give yourself a nice pat on the back for your amazing powers of logic! Glad to see the thread descend to the perennial "ERGG! 8 BET-TA DAN 6! ERRG!!" :nice:

Remember, 8 under the hood doesn't give you 8 anywhere else...

Well, if the thread is about deciding between a V6 Mustang and a V8 Mustang then I think it is only fair to compare the two. I wasn't "knocking down" the V6, I just gave my opinion on it. I personally don't like how it looks compared to the GT and I think it is too heavy compared to how much power it produces. So I will take up your offer and pat myself on the back because it looks like my amazing powers of logic worked in helping me decide which one I prefer. I just thought that the original arguement was ridiculous.

I was in no way trying to start a pissing match. Your V6 may be perfect for your needs, but I still don't think it is better than a GT. If the V6s were better then why do people pay more for the V8? It is not a big deal but if he is even having thoughts about getting a GT then I think he would be better off getting the GT rather than risking the chance of regreting it down the road.

Bottom line, if you like performance get the GT. If you just like the way the new Mustang looks then get a V6.

Thanks

Thanks for the input so far, everybody. I think you are all right; I should wait and get a GT, since it seems to be what I really want. You've made some really good points, too. The resale value, the fun factor, and no regrets.. But no knocking it; if I were getting a V6, it would be a Mustang. I've test drove nothing but V6's and have been impressed every time. No telling what I'm going to feel when I get to finally drive a newer GT!

On a side note, I've heard more rumblings about a new Camaro coming out in '09. Challenger coming out before too long, too, I guess. It almost complicates things..... :D

I had the same dilemma, Merlin. V6 or GT? I wondered if I really needed that "extra" power, if it was worth the additional 4 or 5 grand.

Well let me tell you, deciding to go with the GT was the absolute correct decision. The sound of it is amazing! I really don't see why anyone would need to buy any kind of aftermarket exhaust set-up. The stock is absolutely sweet! Even going from 0 to 20, the car sounds like it's going from 100 to 200. People look up, wondering where that rumble is coming from. Pedestrians shrink from crossing. Other drivers look on with envy. Ricers rev their farting tailpipes knowing that, even if I were to lose a race to their rice, I still have the better car. It is a dream come true.

I'm not knockin' the V6 at all. I rented one recently and I was impressed with its enthusiastic acceleration. But the GT is in another world entirely. It is truly a car that has been sent down from above to make our otherwise mundane lives a little bit more exciting.

Can you tell I'm suffering from new car fever?! :rlaugh:

1. What kind of car enthusiast would prefer to have 5 (give or take) mpg more instead of a V8 with a ton more power.

2. I don't see how you could actually prefer a V6 over a GT unless performance means nothing to you.

3. Get a Mustang not a grocery getter.

Statements such as these start pissing matches. These are not reasons that support an argument, they are inflammatory opinions. But I appreciate your latest response which is more in line with the rest of the thread and with what the author wants to hear. No one is saying that the V6 is better. The GT is without a doubt a better car. And a Cobra is better than a GT. Should no one buy a GT as a result? That is my point. Also, that the new V6s do offer a great deal of performance for the price. Anyway, I appreciate your clarifications, I just ask you to remember that there is no need to malign another to justify your decisions.

I see what you are saying, the comments I made earlier were made hastily and I didn't mean any harm. Your comments back to me didn't exactly help anything though. Anyways, I am sorry if I upset anyone.

Well I can only add to this why I got the GT. For reasons I won't get into it's been on my mind a lot lately that we're not here for very long and any day might be my last so I said to hell with that I'm not going to go through all this BS and not have the pleasure of something I've always wanted which is a nice muscle car. It's one of the things I've always wanted and never had. When the new stang came out I was in love with that dang car as soon as I laid eyes on it. The GT was a little more than I could deal with but the any day could be my last tipped the scale. Past cars I've owned have always been compromises from what I wanted. This time I have what I wanted and it feels freaking unbelievable.

I hear ya; I feel that way a lot, or think that way all the time. I should have gotten a GT already, but I'm trying to be as smart as I can. In my case, I used to live paycheck to paycheck, and with my ex even had to file banktrupcy. Now for the first time in my life, I'm making almost decent wages, for an old country-boy like myself. (Okay, so I'm a rocker, but was raised in the country.) Anyway, I'm struggling against almost every fiber in my being to keep from buying something right off the bat. For once in MY life I want to make a smart purchase, without getting myself into payments and insurance bills that will keep me worried sick all the time. Plus I'm the type of person that worries too much, anyway.

But I do agree; we never know when we're gonna go, so we may as well enjoy our time here the best way we can. My way isn't exactly like yours, but pretty damn close! :D

Yeah, I have a SLIGHT problem with that!!! :D

Probably why I'm in Law School!!! I figure I might as well get paid for being this argumentative!

No hard feelings, man, and you have an awesome car! 289 RWHP with bolt-ons is quite impressive! Kill some M3s for me, won't ya? :nice:

I know this decision is killing you, but honestly I'd have to say that if you really can't afford a GT, just get the V6. Now yeah, I just got a GT for myself so you'd think I'd be one of those "Buy a GT or you're a loser" guys, but I'm not. Like I said before, I'd considered the V6 for a long time. Financially it seemed to make the most sense. But since I could afford it, I figured I might as well get the "best" currently available. I don't know, mid-life crisis maybe! :)

I love my GT, but I'll tell you, I think the V6 would be fine for 95% of your driving. In fact, I think the GT might be a little overkill when it comes to power. Of course I love having that power on tap, but if you'll be mainly using the car for commuting to and from work, the V6 might be the better choice. The GT seems a little unhappy puttin' along at 65! :p This thing wants to MOVE!

So to sum it up, Merlin, I'd say just get yourself a V6 TODAY. I don't think you will regret it. Then, later down the line, if you feel like you have a need for that extra power, buy yourself a used GT maybe.

More than anything, I just want you to share in the joy that is having a Pony! :nice:

I love that attitude. It is true, we're all here for a limited time, perhaps more limited than we might know. So living for the day is not a bad way to run your life at all, I don't think.

Good riding to you. Let's all try to stay on that horse as long as we can.
