GT40p motor questions..

yes.. I know but normally when saying GT40p engine its easier to refer it to a explorer motor then to say GT40 motor or something else..

I've owned GT40p heads, explorer intake, I've ran a whole explorer motor before, hell I've owned an explorer..

so.. your last 2 sentences were unnecessary..

or maybe I should have titled the thread "explorer motor Q's"

No, I missed the part where you said you were the friend of the guy. For some reason, I'm unable to post on corral.net

Your buddy made an ass of himself over there. Someone told him that the intake he was referring to was not called a "P" intake, which it's not. There is no such thing. The guy corrected him, telling him it was referred to as an Explorer/"Exploder"(commonly used term for application) intake. Your buddy got into a damn hissyfit and jumped all over the guy calling him a dick, saying he was wrong, etc., when in actuality your friend was mistaken.

Now, with that being said, I said what I did b/c he needed to be corrected, and I figured if he heard it from enough people he would realize he was wrong.

Once again, now, you've nearly done the same thing he did, but in a calm fashion and you also acknowledged that you knew the engine was not a "P" engine. My two sentences were not unnecessary, but rather a correction to inform you that it wasn't called a GT40P engine, but rather an Explorer engine and that GT40P referred to the heads.

Puhleease! I'm sick of this "...it isn't a GT40 P intake yada yada yada..." Now I know why people who've been on these forums for 6 mos have 5 times as many posts as me. ...and don't dare tell me I don't know what I'm talking about...read the friggin sig.

NOW someone has made an ass out of himself.

Have a nice day.

let me add my 2 cents in , there is some differences on the explorer motors , the 96 and early 97s had regular gt40 heads and internal egr passages in the intake , hence some difference in the P engine intakes since the intakes on the GT40P headed engines for the most part do not have the EGR style intakes....but I have seen some but not many P headed engines have the internal EGR in the intakes but not many , and as for the 96 to 97 regular GT40 headed engines , measure the TB before you swap it , my friend and I did one last summer and it only had a 60mm TB on it .....so it was pointless to use it .......

Good point 2002BLGT. Make sure you check to see if it does have the internal EGR intake if he needs to pass emissions. If not, you'll need to either disable the EGR in the EEC via chip or find another intake. Since you've run one before, I'm probably stating the obvious,

IntenseBlue, I don't have an issue when people post to correct nomenclature, but it stirs up a lot of doo doo when when people have nothing productive to add to the thread. BTW, I'm subscribed to the thread on Corral to which you are referring and I don't think stang2841 is Woody's buddy.

I'm normally pretty reserved, but correcting something like this is in my opinion quite petty and post whoring to boot.

I just bought a 1998 Explorer 5.0 302 engine complete that I plan to run in NMRA factory Stock. Of course the heads will need at minimum a valve job and better springs/retainers/locks for what I want to do with it.

the explorer intake both upper and lower are very good pieces. However I believe the cobra upper to be just a tad better than the explorer upper, so I'll be using that intake. If you want to see some pictures of a set of "P" heads then go visit my site un-der my build up.

I'm wanting to change over my throttle body as well, that would be sweet to make it work well in a factory stock application and watch some of competitors faces when I said it was a Explorer throttlebody...........very nice article by the way....mr. tmoss!
thanks

The "cobra" and "explorer" intakes flow, for all practical purposes, the same. It all depends which day they were cast.

Tom Moss is the guy's name. He's been around a while and has as much experience with Explorer intakes as anyone. Kudos indeed.

I see you are from Mobile. What area? I lived in Theodore/Tillman's Corner for my first 18 yrs.
