Running close to redline?

Hey! just a quick question. I have an 05 gt and I baby it most of the time but every once in a while I drive it hard usually showing off to some ricer. Anyways my question is how hard is it on the engine to run it close to redline, like say within 1500 rpm's? I have only done it about five times and I only let it stay there for maybe a second or two. Should I even be worrying about it or not.

i take it to the redline on every gear, all day long. I would not worry much if you drive it like you said. my tune even allows to go past the redline without the engine cutting out if i wanted to.

yep dont worry, ford wouldnt let you damage your car that way. otherwise they would be warranting many engines. thats why they put the electronic controls to limit the RPMs.

Have fun, go balls out once in a while, don't worry about it. Ford put on a VERY aggressive rev limiter, doesn't even let you keep bouncing off the limiter. Now, powershifting at redline all the time, or even chirping 2nd a lot...that, I wouldn't do. Save that for the races.

Stock (except for Flowmaster AT's), my 5-speed doesn't chirp third unless I really get on it, full out, and it's a smooth road surface. Matter of fact, I think it's only done it once, when I was running against a Lightning.

I don't think I've ever power shifted in any of my cars, even when racing. I always do a quick, but almost full, clutch lift. Does anyone powershift in their 2005+? How does the drivetrain seem to handle it?

Rev Limiter maxes?

I bounce mine off the 6800 rev limiter regularly, you should be fine.

6800? more like 6200... what are some of the highends on the limiters from any of you out there? Tuned to higher limits, and if so, how high?
Mine's an auto 2005, I have installed K&N CAI and SLP loudmouths, and sure would like to see higher revs....

Thanks for any input.

I have the Pradator 91 Octane tune installed in my car, and I set the rev limit at 6500. I have never had a problem with it, and I do come close, if not bounce of the limiter quite a bit. She loves it. (my car and my wife)
:canada: I would not go too much higher unless you plan on doing some valvetrain work. Like better springs and retainers. Otherwise you will start to see valve float, which just kills your power.

I powershift mine any time I race... I can powershift this car MUCH easier than the TKO in my 5.0! The only reason I'd even like to have an aftermarket shifter is for the adjustable stops; but I see that Ford has a "cap" available that goes on top of the shifter base and adds the shifter stops. I'm just afraid of bending a shift fork.
I haven't had the car long, so I can't tell you how well the driveline holds up to the wear & tear. But it is releatively easy to powershift these cars IMO.

Good info...

Took my car to redline more in the first 150 miles than I did my previous Stang (96 GT) in 4 years Now with 19K miles on the clock, not a hint of trouble of any kind with the engine. It gets taken to redline at least once a day now

wouldn't know how NOT to take it to redline :) :)

Sorry but I have 2 stupid questions. What is chirping and how do I do it in 2nd and 3rd gear? Is chirping burning rubber? How do I power shift? I have no idea what powershifting is. I have been driving stick shift for about 2 months and I still have to learn a lot about enjoying all the benefits of a stick shift. I have a 2006 torch red GT.
