Putting Convertible Up/Down without E-BRAKE?

Back on my 89, I remember I could do that without using my e-brake, but I noticed on the newer ones you have to have the E-brake set. Is there a way about disabling this? Im not trying to adjust it at highway speeds, obviously. Just makes it convenient getting caught in the rain at stoplights for instance.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

if there is a sperate sensor for the convertible connected to the e-brake, you'd need to disable it. if there isn't a seperate sensor and you disable the sensor, you'll always have the e-brake light on.

I just pull the e-brake to raise/lower, its never been a problem for me

If that top moves when the car is at any speed it will seriously trash it from the wind. I would leave the safety system enabled for the times when someone else is driving your car. Otherwise, your girlfriend's girlfriend will try to lower it at highway speed or some shiot

Been there.

I pull the e-brake to the first click and hit the top button. If the traffic light changes, you should be able to drive the very short amount of time it takes for the top to get to the windshield. Fortunately the top button and the e-brake are very close to one another. You won't do one bit of harm to your brakes. You just have to be mindful of the extra drag if you have a clutch so you don't stall it.

Simple enough that my wife has done it, while putting on her makeup, talking on the cell, adjusting the stereo, reading mapquest, playing with the mirrors, etc ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

thats what i do, i got hit in a sudden shower (sunny and all) so i just pulled the e-brake up 1 click and started the action. I was at a redlight so i only moved about 25ft before it was done.
