rear seal

I am with the above-guys. Before just doing it, how long has the seal been in there and does it leak now (like Shawn asked)? If it aint leaking and the seal's lips are not vulcanized, I almost hate to recommend opening that can of worms.....

Good luck.

Exactly! If it's not leaking....do NOT replace it! I've done mine TWICE now because it was very minorly leaking the first time. It leaked worse after I replaced it the first time, and still drips now just as bad as it did before. It is NOT easy to do on my AODE car.

The seal is leaking . Everytime i move the car there is a puddle of oil.
That makes it easy.......If its leaking change it.Some guys on here might have some tips for you when putting in the new one about using some RTV on it.Its not easy getting the new one it without leaking.......

I would also caution that a leak from a RMS can be from a clogged PCV system - the crankcase pressurizes and takes the next least path of resistance, which is often the RMS.

Also, a leak at the back of the motor (valve covers, etc) can leak and drip off the back of the motor, right about where a RMS leak would appear to drip from.

Good luck.

I'm on my 2nd seal... followed some tips for installing on here and followed the instructions on the package and it leaks about as good as it did before, heh. Let me tell you what though. The first time I tried to get that damn seal off was a nightmare, it is the biggest PITA ever. It set me back like an hour and some just trying to get it out by prying. The second time I got smart... I took 2 woodscrews and screwed them in the seal a little bit. took the back of a hammer and pulled that sucker right out. Took like 2 minutes and I didn't risk gouging anything around the crackshaft like you would pulling.
