Tire help!!

i just got my car back from having 3.73's installed, and i cant get any traction! i have nankang 245/40/18 tires all around now, which suck, in any condition. i really want a good hooking tire, that still makes me feel a little safe in the rain. Im only looking to get two for the back right now, most likely in 275s. what will get me the traction i crave??

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. That, or Yokohama AVS Sports. Both are all-around good for dry traction, wet traction, & tire wear.

I love my Nitto 555Rs... I live in CO, with various weather, and havent been in anything a light foot, and a steady hand couldnt get me out of.

I ran the Nitto Drag radials in the rear on 17's and didnt really have too many issues with them as a daily driver tire. Just have to be cautious in the rain. I have 285/35/18 555 Nitto streets all around on my car now and hate them. They do last a LONG time, but in exchange they are very hard with 'iffy' traction and they dry rot more and more as they get older.

I considered the Nitto drags for the rear - but in 18 inch for the price - I think there are better overall tires.

Depends on what you waana spend I guess. 255/40/18 Falken azenis RT-615's are pretty reasonable and have great traction (what im switching to on my next tire purchase) Kumho Ecsta MX's have softer sidewalls and good traction for the price as well.

Its a tough choice, 18 inch is a hard size to get a good hooking tire thats also good in the rain for a reasonable price.

i think sumitumos hook great. buddy has the on his 99 camaro and the rubber was soft for a street radial.

Look at the yoke's for sure-avs es100's they are affordable and by all of tire racks tests I have read hold up pretty well in all conditions. Kuhmo's and Sumitomo's are affordable as well.

Its not _always_ just tire model either though.

For instance -a lot of my traction problems comes just from really crappy weight transfer. The rear of my car is gutted out no carpet, spare tire, speakers etc. and I have the added weight of 120lbs worth of turbo and intercooler up front, AND I have eibach sportline springs on my car. In all likelihood I could run 28x12.5x15 M/T's drags in the rear and still have crappy traction because I have crappy weight distribution and stiff shocks in my car.

Suspension is just as important as tire brand and type when you are looking for traction.

try the yokahama avs-es100 i ran them on my old rims and just got new rims with the same tires. i like them alot. and there affordable.

I just got the htrz 315s. The traction is better than my snow tires 245/45s, but I doubt it is better than more expensive goodyears, or even the nittos but they were cheap.
