Which one is louder, deeper, meaner, etc.

I was planning on putting flowmaster and an O/R h on my 06 (when it comes in), but people say this setup doesn't sound as good as it did on the 2v 4.6. I had it on my 98 gt and loved it. I've heard MAC in person on the old 5.0's and 4.6's as well with O/R pipes but didn't like it as much as the flows.

But I've just started researching exhaust for the 3v 4.6 and it seems that more people here are going with the MAC axel back. Has it taken over flowmaster's reign for the 3v's?

These are the only 2 brands I'm considering, I just don't like the straight through sound or X pipes for that matter.

The Mac's are definately a LOUDER, deeper, meaner tone. They also come with a drone at 1800-2000 under load that varies from "a nuisance" to "annoying" to "unliveable". With just the axlebacks I found the tone fantastic, with the catted x-pipe from Bassani, pure heaven.

Thanks, that's good to hear because I heard one clip of the axel back flowmasters and it didn't sound that mean. It sounded like a cross between flowmaster and magnaflow. I haven't heard a clip of the new MAC system yet.

So I'm assuming the MAC axel back is louder than the old flowpath cat back? I didn't think the flowpath catback was as loud as the american thunder on the 2v and 4v's based on what I've heard.

I dont know anything about the Mac system but I have the Flowmaster axel back system. Think of how the stock mufflers sound on a GT( if you have heard them), the flowmaster is just a little louder at idle and has that bigblock sound at full throttle, kinda that tuned raspy sound I guess. Anyways I have heard a sound clip of flows with a high flow cats and an x-pipe and it sounded awsome, at idle it was a low rumble but mean sounding and at any tip of the throttle it got loud and raspy(almost as bad as glass packs or straight pipes:D ) I personally think the flowmasters are one of the better sounding systems out there but thats just my opinion. Hey good luck on your choice, no matter what you go with it will sound sweet.

I have two rough videos of the Macs (prior to the Bassanic xpipe install) at :

The one in the school parking lot has a pretty good representation. The track video needs to be turned up loud to get a good feel, but you'll hear me spinning the tires (won't hook up) but the exhaust is screaming...

jwgroovin, the second link didn't work for me for some reason.

The first one sounded good but it was a little hard to pick out which sound was yours.

The second link points to LARGE quicktime movie, so I'd right click and download first, then run it. I'd convert and compress it to Windows media format but I don't have a tool that will do that. My son and I are at a high school parking lot, and the sound is pretty good albeit a short clip. Like I said, next warm weekend I'll take some more clips at the school, and inside the car.

That's the best sounding MAC clip I've heard yet! You may have sold me. Awesome.

Save the file to your desktop and right click the icon and select open with... then choose windows media player from the list.

Is that just the Mac axel back because it sounds great!!! I can't wait to throw mine on and tear up the street:D If you could post a vid with the x-pipe that'd be awesome.

That's just with the Mac axleback. Sunday is looking like clear weather, so I'll probably take the video then.

One of these days I'll put my website back up and post vids, pics, install steps, etc. Just not enough time!

I'm confused, do you have the x-pipe installed yet and that's why you are making a video on sunday? Is the x a compcats x-pipe or just a plain x-pipe and you are using the stock cats?

BlackSheep06 Ignore the message and open the file with wmp anyway if you can ,that's what I did.

No problem, here's the scoop: The two videos I posted the links to were just the Mac axleback intalls. After taking those videos, I had the Bassani stainless steel catted x-pipe installed (see this link for a picture: http://www.rpmoutlet.com/05gtbasx.htm ), part number BXX4605-3. If it dries out enough here in Maryland tomorrow I'm taking the Mustang back to the high school parking lot where I shot the one video and will post that media file (Quicktime format) so there is a comparison for Mac and Mac+catted xpipe.

Note that when the xpipe was first installed, the mechanic assumed I did NOT want the cats installed, so he installed it as an offroad pipe. But it sounded so bad he called me up and asked me what I preferred, and I said WITH the cats, as others had been down this road before and the cats cleaned up the tone, with very little loss in power.
