exhaust question

hey folks i need to ask you a question about exhausts and want all your opinions and suggestions and info (more the better).

Basically here it is, I have a 2004 gt stang and this upcoming summer after I get married I should have a bit of extra money as I don't need to save anymore for the wedding (woo hooooo), Anyhoo I was looking at buying some performance mods for the stang as right now it is bone stock minus some minor interior mods. I was looking at replacing the exhaust to get the most hp gain as possible but I don't know what kind to get???

I had a borla on my 99 cougar and it was so good but not sure what to get on this one, Is borla good on the stang? what about magna flow and what about flow master? i'm basically looking for a cat back exhaust to start (will go with headers and other stuff down the road).

So basically what cat back exhaust would you recomend for the stang and why? (if you know costs in canadian dollars also let me know) (btw is the borla quieter than stock sound?, I want something little louder and deeper to give it more of a growl).

A lot of people start with the exhaust and if your looking for the sound that's great. If you want the most bang for the buck on HP I would go with underdrive pulleys and a Dynotune to run on premium gas. I would also strongly reccomend that you consider getting a set of weld on sub-frame connectors.

Hi,
I have a Borla regular cat-back on mine. With stock H, it is a bit louder than stock but very nice and sweet. A little drone around 2200RPM but really nothing anoying.
Now combine with the pro chamber, the sweetest sound ever almost better than the flowmaster-prochamber set up.

Now, just a cat-back wont give you any gain in HP, no mather the cat back.
Dont waste a penny on headers either, they re a waste and a pain.
Most of the gain from an exhaust come from the mid pipe.

Pulleys....1-2 HP
First mods should be Gears and a programmer ( Diablo or Xct2 )

Shifter is a must also if you re stick

Good luck

Done lots of cars just starting upgrades and the most common on mod motors seems to be an x-pipe or prochamber along with magnaflow cat-backs, some underdrives and a set of gears(373's or 410's)

These are the most common that i've seen for starting points.

People around here seem to love the sound of the magnaflow units.

Have fun :)

I think the Prochamber and Flows combo is awesome.

I have a Prochamber (you asked for prices so, $599 with taxes, shipping, etc.) and I might get some Flowmaster 40 series this summer. I am just affraid that it might be too loud. I am trying not to get hastled by the police either.

thanks for the replies so far.

I have a few follow up questions, What is a pro chamber? sorry if it is a stupid question. From my understanding i thought the stock set up goes from headers to stock h pipe to stock cat exhaust.

is a pro chamber an H pipe replacement?????

i just am afraid of buying some exhaust or h pipe upgrade and hate the sound without knowing. I don't want something too too loud and heache'ish going down the highway but when i am in the city idel'ing or give a shot of gas you can definatly tell it is deeper and something different than stock.

PC for $440???? Damn, I guess I bought from the wrong guy lol. I'll keep that site in mind for future exhaust stuff. Thanks!

EDIT: Whooops. I didn't see that your Prochamber doesn't have cats. Mine does. So, the $600 price tag isn't bad then.
