That's about the right price for a rebuilt transmission.

A converter and shift kit won't hurt your existing transmission, provided it's in good shape.
 
well ill tell you what i just did an AODE to T5 swap and i love it. My aode was awesome though, if i were you i would do like i did get a shift kit, a 3000 stall (i had 2200 an was way too low) and get the line pressure boosted up and call it a day. Those MONSTER trannys arent anything special, basically a stock tranny painted up, with a shift kit, stall, and boosted line pressure. So i wouldnt waste your money on a whole new tranny, my tranny would chirp third on black top soo just do like i said and ull be happy with it. O yeah if u wanna get maximum performence out of ur tranny, get 4.10s ull love em. And by the why i had 106,xxx miles on mine with the aode and it didnt hurt the engine at all. pm me if u wanna know what parts i used SeriousSN95.
 
Yeah, im not having any issues at all with my current trans, even when it gets hot. Its never slipped, suttered, or whatever. I just didn't want to spend 1K on a converter and shift kit, just to kill my trans, ya know? 100K miles not that much?
 
If it does go, you can always have it rebuilt for less than the cost of that rebuilt Ebay unit...

Or you can spend a little more and build a real monster.

Either way, you should definitely go ahead and add a converter and shift kit right now. You'll love the new feel, go for it.
 
Theres a solenoid on the left side of the tranny i believe, u can advance it a quarter of a turn and since the AODE is electronic( hint the E ) when the computer tells it to shift, if the pressure solenoid is advanced, it waits (builds more pressure in the valvebody) the BOOM it shifts alot harder and firmer. Another big improment on the aode that i had was getting a 1-2 accumulator, it makes ur first to second shift hit just as hard as a 1-2 t5 powershift.

I'm not so sure about that BS call. There are different setups from the factory with the AODE's. 2.73 or 3.08s - Every person I've read or heard about having problems with 4.10s started with 2.73s. Every person I've read or heard NOT having problems with 4.10s started with 3.08s. To me there is something to consider in this 1 point change. I personally have no problems. I went from 2.73s to 3.73s. So as you can see I fall into the above category.

Now if people want to start posting differently, then maybe it can finally be settled, but until then, I wouldn't be so quick to be so blunt. I would sure feel bad if I didn't mention it now and he had problems later with the 4.10s. If he still goes that route, I hope he'll post about it, and I hope it's good news as he just posted he has 2.73s.
 
No firsthand experience, but it seems to me that guys can hit the limiter with 4.10's (since the puter knows what speed to shift at, but you never reach that speed with the new gears, before hitting redline).

It also might depend upon mods (how fast one is reaching redline), shift kit (if the trans wants to shift before redline anyhow, that leaves fudge factor, etc.

I dont know but dont think it is entirely accurate to have a blanket statement saying that it wont be an issue for sure.
 
I was quick to call BS because it is. You won't need a chip to make your car run properly. It'll run fine, BUT you WILL hit your rev limiter if your current gears are 2.73s, hence the question. Everyone kept telling me the same thing and it pissed me off cause I was worried for nothing. If you have 3.08s then you don't have to worry about hitting the rev limiter or if you go as high as 3.73s from 2.73s either. But from 2.73s to 4.10s, you will need to remove your rev limiter but the car will run and perform fine even if you don't remove it. Of course, it'd be best to so you can take advantage of all the power, but since your car is stock, you don't need to shift higher than 5400 rpm which is the cut-off.

My car (again originally a 2.73 geared car) hits the rev limiter at aprox. 5,100-5,200 with my 3.73s (after market tach tested on 3 different dynos, so I know it's right). I had to let up on the accelerator to get it to shift into second gear without hitting the rev limiter and falling on it's face, not EVERY time, but often enough. It was different based on what size tire I was running and what surface I was on, ie the incline of an on ramp is different than a flat race track. Luckily my chip bypasses the rev limiter. There is no way I would WANT to drive my car like that. Going to 4.10s would just make matters worse as you stated.

To me when a chip is "highly recommended" from my experience, a blanket BS statement that one is NOT needed is a little off.

But hey I'm not here to argue... I'm just informing him about MY car. If you've tested this in several 94-95 AODE cars, then perhaps I have a lemon. I did have my shift kit installed the exact same time as the gears. So the firmness setting also plays a role in the whole scenerio as to how quickly the car gets to the next gear.
