Adding a Sub to 2006 Stang

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some recommendations on sub enclosures that looks quite stock and your opinions on them.

I know that mtx has the thunderform, and JL has their Stealthbox (right now only for <94 models, but I sent an email asking if and when they will have one out for the 2005/2006 models and was told in April they will be available.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these? How is the sound quality? I am looking for something that has really nice tight base but that can pound a little if needed (but i dont need it to be pounding super hard) I just want something for good bass fill.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for similar units that fit/were designed for our cars (2005+ coupes)?

Thanks, and by the way :SNSign: ROCKS

Matt

Kerrdogg, can you post some pics of what it looks like installed?

I'm thinking about fiberglassing my own enclosure on the left side of the trunk and relocating the battery to the other side.

Anyone put a sub in the spare tire space? Is there enough clearance?

Kerrdogg---Pics of the enclosure in your car would be awesome!!!

Krang00---To put the sub in the spare tire area depends on what sub you choose to put in there. Different sub's require a different amount of air flow to get the optimum sound that you are looking for. It can be put in there, but you also might have to fabricate some sort of false floor to get the right amount of air flow. When I had my Sierra, I had to make a custum box for the two Alpine Type R 12's that were under the back seat. They hit freakin' awesome after I did that.

There are a lot of options, it really comes down to your choice of brand. I prefer either Kicker or MTX, both speakers and Amps. I tend to use Kicker speakers and MTX amps in most cars.

Ths most difficult issue you will encounter is how to connect it if you keep the factor head unit. Its been discussed on here, but nobody ever posted how they tapped it into the factory system

I'm thinking the spare tire area would be better for the amp actually... make a nice box to mount it on and plexiglass it over top so I can still use the trunk. Do you think it will get too hot by enclosing it in plexiglass? Should I put fans or holes in it?

You need a line converter, just run the input from rear speakers into the amp:

I used one of these on my wife's 2000 Pontiac Grand AM and it works great!

Yes I am aware of the line converter... the problem is that you did it in your wifes Pontiac, not the Mustang.

The question is... is the rear speakers full range or only mid and high due to the subwoofers already upfront in the Shaker systems?

I am pretty sure the Head Unit/Factory Amp alreay cuts the Low signal out of the rear, and someone else said from looking at the circuit diagrams it appears to be that way.

So... I know there are some folks out there with subs in their stangs... anyone hook it up to the factory system?

one of the most notorized stereo shops in the country custom sounds tried to use a very nie high dollar line out converter on my car .. the stock head unit blew up and they have to give me a alpine head unit.

they have no idea why it happened either.

that stock head unit is finiky as all hell.

I ordered my stang with the base stereo (CD & 4 speakers) because I knew I would install a bunch of stuff I had lying around in my basement from previous cars. Since I have a Vert, I kept the factory deck for a stealth mode appearance. I replaced the stock 5x7's with MTX's and used a low to high level input adapter (RCA) tapped off the front speaker leads. The RCA's went to my trunk where I installed two MTX 202 amps. 1 amp to my speakers, and 1 amp to my single 10" audiobahn sub. I wired it all together with a distribution block. It looks real clean and very stock.

The result is a pretty good system. It won't win any sound competitions, but it sounds real good. The good news is that I don't have a lot of money tied up into it.
