306 Guys what are you running? hp/tq/ 1/4?

My bud had an 87 coupe that went 12.014@115 (me driving) with a 306, out of the box TFS heads, B cam, 1.72 rockers, port matched GT40s, 73mm MAS, 70mm TB, 24# injectors, 3550, 4.10s and slicks. Never dyno'd but guessed 330~350 FWHP.

You'll be running exactly the same as the guys with the 302 and simular mods... :) hp gains going to a 306 clean up will be nada. As for 12's judging by you parts you should be easly low 13's and into the 12's with some sticky tires.

Youre et and hp numbers are not directly related. The weight and suspension setup will have a HUUUUUGE effect on things.

For example the guy above who runs 12 flat @ 115 on 300whp (about 350 at the motor) must have a car that is very light and has a good suspension, set up for drag race only. The same motor in a car with road race suspension would probably run half or three-quarters of a second slower.

You also must bear in mind that you can take the same car to two different dynos on the same day and get numbers that are 20whp different, OR MORE. Also a guy in Denver will not make the same numbers as a guy in LA, etc... so take it with a grain of salt.

All that being said...
286whp/352wtq (bad fuel pump flat lined curve at 5K)
13.5 @ 105.5 on street tires, loose in 1st & 2nd

The real fun of a good h/c/i car on corner carving suspension, is running along about 35 in 2nd, and have some ricer in a honda pull up along side and start messing with you.... you can stand on it and fog the tires till ya click it in 3rd. (just shy of 60 with 3.08s)

Well, heres my complete set up:

BBK Cold Air intake
MSD 6al ignition
MSD Blaster Coil
Flowmasters(headers back no cats)
King cobra clutch
Ford racing radiator
Aluminum Driveshaft
3:55 gears
Baer disc brakes(all the way around)
Subframe connectors(full length)
caser/camber plates
Koni Yellow shocks/struts
Global bushings
Global Rear control arms
lowering springs(2 ")
Pro 5.0 shifter
K&N intake
190 lph Fuel pump
FMS 28 spline axles
Fuel pressure regulator
Fuel pressure gauge
Phantom oil temp gauge
Phantom oil pressure gauge
Ford 8mm plug wires
ponys wrapped in 225-50-16 Nitto 450s/ Or 17x9 chrome cobra R's on 245/40/17 and 275/40/17 Falkens

I think that with that set up I'll be able to get into the 12's with a little launch practice, what do you think?

easy 12 second car, steeper gears may help in the straight line, but you didnt build the car for just going in a straight line did you, hence the Baers

You're right, I wanted it to handle, and be a good cruiser, because I'm going to be driving it almost every day in the spring/summer/fall, so 4.10's would hurt my wallet pretty bad, and I'll still be able to hit 140 mph at the top of the tach, which is what I wanted. Basically I wanted it to be completely streetable, and not drive/handle like a tank, and still be in the 12's.

I can see how the 3.55 would hurt a little over 3.73's or 4.11, but how would my suspension hurt? This I do not understand. Please explain.

I think he was referring to straight line performance, which quite honestly, your car is not set up for straight line, you said it yourelf. What does it matter, there is a lot more to a good car than a staright line or 1320 feet for that matter.

For example with a drag race suspention (lotts of lift in the front, lotts of squat in the back) my 105.5 trap speed would be a solid 12 sec et...
BUT.......

With a road race style suspention (no lift, no squat, just flat) the car overpowers the tires through 1st and 2nd, so since I dont get any good useable power till 3rd gear, my et is for chit'. (you make or brake your et in the first 60') So my car runs about .7 slower than it *should/could* in the quarter.

...but from a 40mph roll on the street, its oooonnnnn. :D

(you can also bury a 140mph spedo)
