Procharger install complete need help

Ok, install is complete on a p1sc NON INTERCOOLED charger. I have plans on methanol later. My question is I talked with the tuner and we went without a fmu. I have 42lb injectors and a c+l mass air with correct draw thru meter. I cannot get the thing to run correctly and doesnt want to idle when coming to a stop. It idles better than before just sitting but is undriveable.It wants to go but when I apply a good amount of throttle it just boggs down. It also doesnt want to start. It will spin the starter and wants to crank, and I have to push on the gas to start it. I know thats a bad thing to do. I am assuming with major changes that it will not run until it has a custom tune?? Has anyone been able to drive their car after a blower install without a custom tune. I could spend some more time and adjust until Im blue in the face but dont think its going to happen.

Well, I wouldn't be using a C&L MAF on a blown application first off. I have a C&L meter, and I LOVE it.. but they really should only be used in NA applications with the stock air box. When you floor the gas pedal on start up, what it's doing is cutting off fuel to the injectors... so if it will only start that way, you're getting way too much fuel in the engine and it's flooding it. Hope this helps.

Well I guess my buddy was on the right page. We went over the install and his thoughts were too much fuel causing some of the issues. 42lb injectors will do that to ya. I didnt want to go through the horror stories of a fmu so I will grt it tuned after Orlando FFW. The c+l ran good n/a and on nitrous so I didnt want to change it just yet.

have you considered running a lightning or cobra meter on the car? thats what i have and ive had no issues at all. i have heard some horror stories about C&L and pro-m more on the C&L side though.
 
i had the same issues with a c&l when i first put in my sc. i have a pro-m now and it runs great. i have a pms tho, not a chip. 42's dump too much fuel at cranking doesnt matter if you have a maf calibrated for them. with my pms i took out 40% of the cranking fuel and it fires up imediately but i also have it idling with 10* more timing then stock....need to back it down to 6-7*
 
get a hold of a competent tuner with SCT tuning devices, an SCT meter, and have him tune it. the right tuner will make a world of difference. I picked up gobs of power going with an SCT meter and tune in my Procharged Cobra, of course a good tuner was at the controls

Get the 90mm LMAF on ebay for $80 plus shipping and be done with it.
 
Did you get a owners manual with your S/C? If so, look through it and you will read that a mildly modded car like yours with an intercooler with a procharger only needs 30lb injectors. Sounds like you need to turn the fuel pressure down. I run an FMU on my Procharged Stang with a C&L and I have not had any problems yet. I run 15psi also. I have 36lb injectors and I had to turn down my pressure some to get it right.
 
I went with the Lightning 90mm MAF and 42lb injectors when I did my charger install. The car didnt idle at all but drove fine at 2000-2500 rpms. I had to back down my fuel pressure as low as it would go ( about 20psi ) and then drove it to the tuners. One the SCT chip was programed to reconize the MAF and INJ. the car idled dead smooth at 800rpms, and we reset timing and fuel and pressure and the tuner got busy. On a side note when my brother supercharged his car he had a C&L on it and the thing never ran right, but when he went to a pro-m 77 it ran good enough to drive it easy untill he got it to the tuner.
 
Well the tuner said he could make it work so we will see. He uses SCT, Diablo, and Sniper for his tunes. Illl let him do his thing and get it up to him on Mon. I just came back from FFW and I will mess with it tomorrow and see what happens.
Also on a side note does anyone run a 12 rib setup?? He had ordered the charger and had them throw in the 12 rib setup and it is very close to the fan shroud. How in the hell am I going to ever change the belt without removing the shroud?? Removing the shroud with the fan and spacer is a job in itself.

If you are still using the stock fan shroud like I am you could do what I did. I cut the top part of the fan shroud away. the part that say caution on it. then I added sheet metal tabs to the part that was cut out and used 2 peice cap screws to bolt it on and off. After I put my new radiator in I had some small clearance problems and notched the shroud in the areas where the belt ran. If you want I can take some pics in the next day or two and post them.
 
That would be great. I would like to see how your setup looks. I didnt have to trim the shroud but the manual said I would?? Go figure, Im dropping it off on Mon and Ill let them finish it up.I am assuming you are pleased with the performance?? Anything you would have done different??

Imho... you need to have a custom chip burned for it.
The minimum pulse width while cranking with 42s is too big and will usually flood it, most guys with 36s and above have this trouble. The idle quality is also poor, the startup enrichment table needs to be zero'd out, the injector offset vs battery voltage table needs to be changed for 42s, the tb airflow and maf airflow numbers will need to be changed, etc.., etc..., and so on. It will probably set ya back a couple hundred for a chip, and whatever local cost is for a full days dyno time with wideband. But the improvement will probably be night and day.

I will put up some pics tommorrow. Yeah Im happy with what I have, but if I had It to do over I would have given a higher output vortech more consideration, but it would have cost alot more for a vortech that can put out more than 14psi.
 
Well I got the car running better today. I just backed off the fuel pressure until it would start without holding down the pedal. It still requires a bunch of tuning. I figure with a little time it will work out. Its still a ton rich. I went around the block and on hard take off black smoke pours out from the exhaust.Im pretty happy with just what power that I could get from the around the block blast. It should be what I was hoping for or more. I was shooting for around 8 psi and 350-375 rear wheel. I hope it will pull the number. We will see this week. Thanks for the help.

My car on the dynojet made 332hp and 363tq. on the stock longblock. My afr was so rich it was off the chart from 5200rpms up. The tuner said that after the tune is dialed in again I should be around 350-360hp. This was at about 8.5lbs. of boost on the dyno. On the street I make about 2 more pounds of boost. Im really interested to see how your tune turns out.
 
here is a pic of my fan shroud mod. If you look close you can see were the mounting tabs are. Believe me it makes gettin to my belts so much easier. If you need better pics or more info let me know. All I could post was link for now.

Well as far as the tune is concerned it is a safe tune and I have some additional parts to get ahold of. First the car has high miles and was run with 12* timing it ran 364 hp and 396 tq. This was not the best it could do but only run to 5000 rpm because a lack of fuel and pegging the meter. This was only pushing 6 psi on the gauge. It runs hard but has some surging that just crept up on the way back from the tuner. It looks like it will run quite a bit hotter and will need to get on that project next. All in all it has decent power. I think with nitrous I could smoke the new setup. I just always wanted a blower car and have finally got it. Some more fine tuning it will be where I want it.
