All AOD's equal?---- did swap, now question..

Hi all, I have a '93 lx 5.0 and the trans has no overdrive anymore. Ive found a AOD from a '89 and want to make sure there wont be any problems putting it in my car.

Thanks

the 92-93, I believe that I am correct on the years, have a stamped steel drum while the earlier models have a cast iron drum. But it is an internal thing and you should be able to unbolt the old one and bolt in the new.

the speedo drive gear in the tranny is different too i believe........84 to 89 is one drive gear, 90 to 93 another....in a 90 to 93 aod you can only get the correct speedo gear for up to 3,55 gears unless you swap the old speedo gear drive from the 89 in

they did that with the t-5 too, why ford changed something like that i have noooooooo clue

OK, just finished the trans swap today. I used the converter and the speedo gear for the '89. Finally have overdrive now!

But,couple things.. on my way to change them I noticed I did 40mph at 2500rpm in 3rd gear. Now its 40mph and 2000rpms if I remember right. I swapped the speedo gear, could it just be the trans has a different ratio?

Other thing, the trans shifts sooner than the other one, is there a way to adjust the shift points?

And thats all I can think of right now. Took me longer fiddling with that stupid emissions tube on the H pipe than it did to swap the trans.... Time for an off road!
