I cant seem to find any info about what size wheels/tires will fit on the 71-73's. My grande needs tires soon, and rather than just do the economical thing and shoe on some new 205-70-14's, I want to put on some new wheels and wider tires.

Diamiter is easy enough to figure out, but what is the correct offset? How wide can I go? White size is the 5 lug pattern? I searched, I really did, but I couldnt find anything. All the info seems to stop at year 70. What else is new? :bang:

Lets keep this simple then, shall we. I like this wheel, beause its pretty and cheap, as far as wheels go.

Will a 16 inch by 7 inch, with 4 inch backspacing, fit? Is 4 inch backsapcing goin gto look "normal" Will a 245/50/16 tire fit in the rear wheelwell too?

same boat !

Hi
I'm in the same boat, only with a 73 Mach1.
It has a big block in it, and I want to do it up like a 71 Mach1 429 clone.
I have to buy all new rims & tires so want to go with bigger than stock Magnum 500's.
National Parts Depot has them in 16 x 8" and 17 x 8" both with a 4.5" backspacing.
But I don't know if they will fit my application back & front.
Also need to know how big a tire I can go without rubbing......
This car is street legal, but I also want to run it at Road Course Lapping day Events.
Any advice appreciated
Thanks

already have that

Hi
Thanks but I already have that PDF
It only shows me 16 x 8" and a small tire size, and a 17 x 9.5" which I can't get in a Magnum 500.
I'll keep trying.
Thanks again.
Hope it helps the original poster though !

The Magnum 500 is also called the Mach One wheel by the younger generation and it is available from several companies in a 17 x 9.5. Have you tried AFS wheel? I bought mine (17x8) used with decent tires for $450 at Corral.net. Maybe budget doesn't matter, just an FYI. Also, the bolt pattern is still 5 on 4.5. I'd say you are safe with 17x8's, 245/45/17, 5" BS rear, 4-5" BS front.

I have been shopping for tires for my 72 Grande as well, I am actually keepint the 14" Magnum 500s for a few more years, until I get around to the engine rebuild and the body work.

Anyway I found a really good tire size calculator here:
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

You can enter whatever size tire you are looking for and the original size and it will give you all the important figures including the percentage of difference in size and will give you a warning if the size is greater than 3% different.
