Hey i just picked up a procomp ignition system for my 84 mustang. i blew the motor up and i got a 302 out of a 87 truck or something. i was trying to install the new distributor and i noticed that the gear was actually a seperate piece that comes off real easy. i guess it is for a early 302. i was wondering if it would still work for my car. thanks

Yes they are removable, ususally needs a press, puller or similar persuasion.

They can be changed, although some effort may be needed to shim it correctly and get the rolll pin to line up. Note that there are two shaft diameters for small block dist's.

Roller motor means you need a steel gear to keep from chewing up the iron gear and depositing metal particles in the oiling system.

i bought a new procomp distributor and noticed the same thing. i put a little blue threadlocker inside the bottom piece then set the top piece in place. i wiped away the excess then let it sit upright in the box it came in overnight. next day it held tight and installation went just fine. not sure if that's the recommended method, but it's been 500 miles and no problems yet.
