I have a 2002 Mustang GT and am looking to pull the ROM off the ECU so i can flash tune it. Any idea's as to what hardware i might need to do this and how i would go about doing it.

no you can't take the rom out of the pcm. our pcm's do not contain that data in rom. it's eeprom memory that is flashable. nothing has to be replaced you hook a cable to the data port and download your tune into it.

when you see tuners installa "chip" in your car they are using the port in the pcm that alows for a chip to be pluged in. this bypasses the "tune" storeed in eeprom.

I'm pretty sure he's trying to pull the PROGRAM off the ECM into his computer to modify it and flash it back.

I'm very interested also. I used to do this on newer GMs using Tunercat.

yeah that is what i'm looking to do. i'm just having a hard time trying to find someone who knows how to do this.

i think you got 1/2 the idea.

Simply put he is looking for OpenSource flashing tools (and hardware, such as cable ect) that would be need to "reflash" the ecu. Secondly he would be looking for map definitions for his model ecu. Map editing tools are pretty generic, once you have the definitions files there are quite a few that will work easily, such as tunerpro.

Does anyone here know about any "OpenSource" reflashing tools avaible for the mustang? The equvalent for subarus would be http://www.openecu.org. The honda guys have Hondata ect. I think you get the idea.

Probally the most import part of that question, which type of cable is required to flash the ecu and where would you goto buy one(for subarus it's http://www.tactrix.com). I was really under the impression that the domestic guys were much further ahead in the opensource tuning tools (at least compared to the subaru community, maybe I was missled).

Sorry about the links that are off topic (at least in this forum). But I figure that will make the questions very clear. (and if there isn't anything availble now, maybe this will stir the intrest to get you started.)

Enjoy,

Jeramie

The attitude will get you nowhere, that is your problem.

Def go buy a WRX do not let the door hit you in the ass on the way out :nice: Oh BTW they cost $30k... If I were spending 30k it would be on a Terminator
