clunk from front end while backing up with steering cranked all the way...

I get a knock as though something is binding, have put the car up on jacks, removed the wheels and checked things out but don't see any obvious problems . The steering is fine in normal driving, no noise, roughness, etc....the noise occurs only while backing out of a driveway. I'm hoping someone here might have some ideas...the car is a 2000 GT 5 sp w/ 60K and is 100% stock....TIA

First guess would be a tie rod end. I am having the same thing, but it is from my K member interfering with the tie rod.. gotta do some adjustments

Do not crank your wheel all the way, it is bad luck. Best to stop just short of the extreme limit of travel.

sounds like a tie rod to me. On mine everything looked fine but there was a tear in the boot which caused all the grease to come out so it was metal on metal.

mine does it as well. go slower and dont crank it 100%, more like 95% and it wont bother you anymore.

strange how it only does it when moving backwards, i cant get it to clunk going up the curb at the same speed and angle as going down the curb.

yeah my 03 also does it don't go as fast backing up and don't turn the wheel all the way and you'll be fine

My 2000 does the same thing, but I haven't had a chance to check it out. I was half afraid it was a ball joint.

Recommended fixes? Any upgrades to look at?
