I'm (hopefully) towards the end of my 88 project. The only thing left to do is a put together a strong rear for slicks. How much will my T5 hold up with lots of hard launches?

I hear all the time on hear about people going through T5s like toilet paper. My motor is a strong 300hp combo. I am just scared of being stranded at the track because I didn't want to upgrade to a better tranny.

I am hoping to be able to pull an 11.999 with my combo :D

So was I until I decided to powershift my mustang coming out of a toll booth in NJ a few years ago on the way to E-town. Then, the motor was pushing 320 rwhp with an FTI/AFR n/a combo. Bought a Tremec TKO the next day.

I broke my first one with a near stock motor that went high 12's, power shifted it to hell and back.

After a full rebuild it held 540HP/742TQ to the wheels, the only reason it never broke was the car was crazy for the first 330ft and never hooked. If it had hooked better then the 1.7 it was pulling on my 5500RPM launches it would have been toast.

Powershifting it really hard on a T-5, just make sure the imput shaft only has .000"-.002"+ endplay and it will live a better life. It won't last forever but at 300RWHP you really should be OK. In NA form my car made 340RWHP and similar TQ, I launched at 5800rpm and pulled 1.6X 60fts and it took many, many passes even with the SPEC Stage III.
