I remember learning about liquid tensile strength in chemistry. Like the example in my text book where water has enough tensile strength to let a pin rest on it if placed carefully. If you add one drop of soap, the water loses its tensile strength and the pin will sink.

I know it's been a while, but I just wanna follow up on this.
I did try this and ever since I've been using acetone and will NEVER stop using it.
I tried a few tanks without it afterwards and my MPG decreased dramatically. Also, I took a trip to FL from Jersey with the acetone and I got a WHOPPING 27 MPG on average!!!!!!! riDICulous!!!!

Are you still using 2 oz every tank? Why 2 oz? not more or less?

really interesting stuff.
i will be trying it today. i have been getting crusified at the tank and my beater has no plates.

Just a quick note....tensile strength is not the proper term here. Tensile strength refers to a materials strength when it is pulled apart. for example take a pencil and pull the two ends in the opposite direction....quite difficult and way easier that just snapping it in half. your thinkin surface tension....very different. Im also interested in people's calculated results from using acetone....i wouldnt mind some additional milage either!!
I used acetone in various concentrations for several tanks and saw no improvement in mpg.
For 11 tanks I alternated acetone and non-acetone tanks. The three highest fuel economies I registered during this time were non acetone. My non-acetone average for these tanks was 1.3 mpg better.
While my driving cycles were not exactly the same for any 2 tanks, they were close enough to allow comparison of average economy. The one road trip I took during this time was Acetone there (16.3mpg), non-Acetone back (20.3mpg). This was at 3oz per gallon.
I have been suspicious that compression ratio will have a major affect on how well economy responds to acetone. My ratio is less than 9:1.
I am sure other factors will have an impact as well.

just finished pouring it in
my last reply didnt get posted so i dunno. ill try again
anyways i just got back from home depot and canadian tire. bought a small glass measuring cup and a metal canister of acetone. it did not specify how pure it was but im trusting it is pure enough.
i poured roughly 3 -4 ounces into a full tank of gas. a lot spilled so i re - measured maybe 1 ounce.
make sure and use the attachment from a portable gas container (which im planning next time if this works) it looks like it could screw right onto the acetone container.
so ill update you guys on the diff. if any.
btw. i read one of these threads mentioning that if the gas stations in my area have ethonal in the gas then there will be negligable results. someone please confirm. thank you.

Any update? I switched from 93 octaine to 89 put half a bottle of sea foam- I went from 20mpg combined to 21.5 combined. Im gona try the acetone next tank.
ok, here's my update.
the only time i drive is to work which is 48 miles round trip(about 85% highway). i go to ASU, so i ride a bike everywhere else.
my average mpg without acetone was 21.4 on 5 consecutive tanks
my average mpg with acetone was 24.15. 2 tanks with an oz/gal ratio of .13(2 oz per 15.4 gal) and 1 tank with a ratio of .1(about 1.5 oz per gal). with the .1 ratio, i got 23.3 mpg. i'm currently on my 2nd tank of the .1 ratio, so we'll see how that goes.
in my opinion, it deffinitely works. i've seen an improvement of almost 3 mpg.
- edit - i have 2.73 gears and a completely stock engine.
