What radio options avail in 67 Mustang?

I have a 67 that came with a 8 track am/fm radio. The owner told me it was original, but then again he said it had minimal rust. I am taking the interior back to its deluxe black interior and want to do the same with the radio. Does anyone know what radio came in said interior? Also if anyone has one they want to sell I would be interested.

'67 Radio Options ...

straight from the pages of an original '67 Mustang showroom brochure and original 67 Owners Manual -- the three optional radios include: AM radio; Stereo-Sonic Tape System (8 track?) with AM radio; AM/FM radio .... there's no mention of "prerequisite" interior level (i.e., deluxe) for radio options .... from the MotorBooks Workshop Restoration Guide, the tape deck could be "hang-on" or "integral" (integral was needed for the full length console) .... there is also an AM/FM Muliplex Adapter for the AM/FM radio (for dash mount AM/FM radio, not sure how this would work with a console -- no details on that given) .... hope this helps ....

The 8-track AM/FM was an option, I don't think it required any specific trim level. I do think, though, that that option would have come with door speakers...so that may be a clue as to the originality of the unit. If you decide it isn't...I'll trade you my all-original and fully operational 1967 vintage AM radio straight up...I'll even pay to ship both of 'em :^)

The AM/FM was mono not stereo, the only stereo option was the 8-track. If the car was a standard interior the 8-track option included the door grilles (for speakers, I do not know of the courtesy lights came or not but I doubt it). I plan on putting my 8-track back in the dash because it looks cool :D

the factory literature makes no mention of an AM/FM-tape combo unit option .... not saying it was not available as a dealer installed thing, but the owner's manual would have listed that if it were available as a factory option -- which it wasn't .... it an AM/FM/tape unit was available as a factory option, I'd like to see the source material .... all of the sources I've seen, including the detailed wiring diagrams, only show AM/Stereo Tape units --- no AM/FM/Tape combos .... but what do I know ....

You're right, I misspoke. Factory option for '67 was AM/Tape or AM/FM, not both. That came later...mea culpa. I think I've seen them in a '69 maybe? But don't many of the 70's vintage radios share simiar dimensions? Are the buttons plastic or metal? I think the early ones are mostly metal...but given the recent destruction of any credibility I may have had, I could just as well say that they were crafted from material gathered at the Roswell UFO site.

67MustangManiac PM'ed you a reply.

I do have other '67 'stuff' I would like to clean out. Would this be the appropriate place to list them? Relative newbie to forums and don't wish to offend.

back on track -- with 67CoupeDriva's reply -- no issue mate!! .... it's just so darn hard to figure out what was OEM vs. dealer add-on vs. aftermarket sometimes .... good that we all pretty now agree on the three OEM choices .... hopefully now 67gt390 can lead a happy life ....

Stangboy67, the appropriate and fair way to sell stuff here is via the classified section near the top of this page. Read the instructions regarding how to post within that forum before you post and everyone will be happy.

I heard that $100 bezel was a POS

If you get the "modern head unit bezel" from NPD for $100 you can put any new head unit in it. It's plastic but looks like the original chrome piece.

Has anyone actually looked at one of these things? I called one of the suppliers ( I forget which) & the guy on the phone went to look at one & was not too impressed with it.

Yep, I have one and I'll admit I was less than impressed with it when I got it just because it feels like flimsy plastic and I realized I paid $100 for a piece of flimsy plastic.

*However* - I installed it with my new deck, and it looks like the original bezel and allows me to have an awesome sound system without going the hidden deck route. Looks fine once it's in...
