I have a 95 5.0 with an automatic tranny. Originally, the transmission was simply revving out between second and third gear for about two seconds, and it was shifting at higher RPM than seemed normal. I recently added Lucas auto tranny additive that was supposed to help the problem. I took it out that night to test it, and now third gear is completely gone. powershifting first and second still works fine. Any ideas on what it might be? I've heard so many different things. I have a tranny i can get for cheap, but i dont want to mess with it if it's a sensor or a vac line or something simple. thanks for the help.

Is your tranny stock? If so instead of fixing the problem it might be time to go ahead and do the rebuild. My old 347 stroker had an AOD/E behind it and it didn't last long. Factory AOD/E's aren't very strong.

With the tranny I had nothing was an easy fix and I got tired of hunting down gremlins.

Good news they can be build to hold a tremendous amount of power and can be made to be very reliable. If you do decide to rebuild it don't skimp get every performance/harden part you can find and a good stall converter and it will be a night and day difference and worth every penny.

I had a very similar problem but it only would happen occassionally... two months later and goodbye tranny. Probably going to have to have it rebuilt in the near future. I hope not for your sake but that was my experience.

Yeah I have been having problems with my tranny the past 3 months and first gear finally went on me this weekend. If you are getting it rebuilt, you should get it rebuilt with hardened parts, shift kit, and throw in a torque converter. A good stall for our cars is at about 2800 or 3000rpm. Tomorrow I am actually getting my new trans thrown in with all of that stuff for 1500 fully rebuilt with torque converter, but that is because I got a good deal. Normally the guy said it would run anywhere from 2000 to 2500 for an upgraded AODE.

figured all that

I was just hoping there was some vac line or sensor i was overlooking. I'm probably going to drop that almost free tranny in for now. I'm collecting parts right now for a manual swap, so i just need to buy time till i get them all. Thanks for the help. Guess the treatment is...drop it. At least i dont have to waste my time with a bunch of sensors and crap. Well, lemme knock on wood. thanks a lot guys.

I thought I was nearing the end with my AODE last summer. I took her to the track, and she slipped on me real bad when I tried to launch the car.

I was beating on it trying to make it out to the track before they closed, and it was real warm and humid outside. When I got there, I ran the car right away with no time to cool down.

I thought the slippage was caused by heat, and I was right. I changed the fluid, filter, and installed a 24,000GVW B&M supercooler. The car has not slipped AT ALL since. The tranny shifts firm and hard, all day long as a DD. Never had the slightest problem with it since.
