Just bought a 2006 Gt last Monday bad ass car ....the question I have is although these cars are really not going to get that great of gas milage with a foot in throttle all the time I ran my tank down to almost empty the in car warning light came on and said 50 to empty I filled up the tank it took 12.7 gallons that was it ,I thought these cars had 16 gallon tanks ,this is the second time I filled it up same issue. Anyone else experience thsi or do ya think the gauge or float in the tank is off.

Thanks, ......................the 03 GT is gone all that remains is the 06........

Have you ever actually computed the mileage?

Before you fill up next time, record your mileage. Drive the car. At the next fill up point, record the mileage again, as well as the number of gallons input.

Subtract the two mileage amounts and divide by gallons input when you filled the tank. Record this over time to get an idea for the average fuel economy of your (or any) vehicle.

I would say the same thing. Compute the gas mileage manually to get the best idea. Also consider the break-in period for your car. My car now averages 23mpg, but it was only getting like 18-19 for the first 5,000 miles.

Yes I did the mileage myself to double check it. Still the samr I called Ford and they said the same "break in period" we shall see hopefully it will straighten itself out.

Thanks again

During the break-in, my car was getting about 18 MPG, but now it has gone up since.
At my last fillup, the info center indicated 14.5 gals used, and 22.3 MPG.
The actual gallons came up to 14.403 (I did not pump the nozzle after the pump first stopped) and my manual calculation (@ 324.7 miles) came up to 22.5 MPG (50% city/50% hwy). My best MPG so far was 25.5 MPG (30% city/ 70% hwy). I'm planning on going on a long road trip next month so I'm sure I'll be getting at least 25 MPG in 90% hwy driving.

I got 26MPG on a long trip to NC. The info center reallt helps to compute gas mileage, around town I get around 17MPG. You are corect they do have a 16 gal tank, allthough even with the info center I dont think it will let you run out of gas, must keep some in reserve. When I test drove mine it said 12 miles till empty and I drove it the whole 12 and it still made it to the gas station after that.
