Whey the need for a shortened rear? Couldn't you just use a wheel with more backspacing?

Did you modify anything else? Other than the fender lip?

yes, you could just get the rim with more backspacing but i already the the rims.

i just modified the fender lip and inner fender a little with my tools... a wood baseball bat and a BFH:D

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhit... yeah, I'll just whip that out this weekend in my driveway. NOT!!!! Does anyone offer alternatives to this??

Well, I didn't say it would be easy...or cheap :)

I haven't seen anything larger than a 245/255 and an 8inch wheel using the stock spindles and control arms, especially that upper control arm with the balljoint smack in the way.

The wheels look sweet but it doesn't look like you have much suspension travel. I know those rear wheel housing curve upward above the rear lip, seems like the tire would hit there.

I was going to ask the same thing. This looks exactly like Big-Macs when he had 10 inchers with 295s that rubbed inside and out.

when i had KYB's with my stock leafs,no they didn't rub.

when i started using rear 50/50 drag shocks...yes they do rub when hitting a good size dip. based on the little rubbers on the drag shock my suspension would compress 2"s to the point it would the outside of the tire would rub against the outside inner fender. since then i only use the 50/50 shocks when going to the track.

I have been mocking up my 'stang with 275 40 18's. I have lots of clearance, with slightly modified wheelwells, probably 1" gap each out side, and 1 1/2" inside, with partially rolled fender lips

A local tire guy, is pretty interested in my build, and gave me a 315 35 19 to try out. It was too big, I think. I have 1 1/2" lowering springs plus 1" lowering block. I don't want any rubbing. He will give me a couple other sizes to try, when I am ready.

This will be interesting to follow along. It sounds like you've already got your rims, what is the width and backspacing?

getting a larger front tire on the front is a situation where a 2" lowering spindle would be really nice if someone made one for a performance app. fat man makes a 2" lowering spindle but it's designed for granada brakes and we all know there are better options for a performance car. granada's are fine for a street car, though. the raised spindle pin will put the wheel far enough above the ball joint to make it a non-issue.

I think we are all working at large rims/tires on our cars and yours seems to be the model. The more pics and info you give us the braver we will get to order those 9.5" 17's. Of course none of us wants to order custom BS rims and have them rub.

I noticed that Summit Racing has 9.5" x 17 TTII's with several sizes of BS. Anyone found them cheaper?

On www.summitracing.com search this string-> Torq-Thrust II 17 in. x 9.5

or try this link

It appears that Newstagiawheel has them a lot cheaper, not listed in our bolt pattern and exact BS, but they can most likely order the ones we would need. The JYD's are about the same price as the TTII's but you have to wait 6-10 weeks. That would suck!

Oh yeah, the JYD's are 8" or 10" not 9.5 like the TTII.

I'll start posting pics for BIG MAC
