I have 10k to spend on car. I like the 94-98 models and really like cobras. Iam pretty sure i want a 5.0. but i will consider anything. I want as much power as can get but dont know if i should go with cobra or a gt and mod it out. Please give opinions on what you would do.

go with a 94-95 5.0 parts are cheap and there are a pile of aftermarket stuff that are way cheapper than 4.6 stuff. And for 10K you can buy a nice one and have around 5K left and bolt on some aluminum heads and a nice supercharger and maby upper and lower intakes. Or you can do what I did I sold my 95 V6 auto and bought a 88 GT 5-speed the next day I miss the interior of the 95 but that is the only thing I miss well maby the way it handled too.

i had a 96 gt and it was a dog. i was researching the head swap when i realized how expensive mod motor stuff is. to do the swap right (ported heads, cams, long tubes, ...), it would have cost about $3000, and then i would have been at probably 280-290 hp. not worth it imo.

that was when i decided to sell it and buy a 94/95. i bought this car for $7000, $1000 less than i sold the 96 for. a h/c/i costs much less (and you have lots of kits to choose from) than the pi headswap and you net more hp. plus i can go to a 347 easily. and the blower i have on it only cost $2500.

dollar for dollar, i have gotten alot more out of this 95 than i would have for the 96. i have no regrets at all.

94/95 cobras are not nearly as plentiful as the gt's are. if you find one in your price range, i would say go for it. otherwise, you can just as easily take the money you save by getting a gt and put it into upgrades.

if i had $10K, i'd look for a 94/95 gt that doesn't need body work or paint and try to get it for like $5K or $6K. then i'd put the rest into upgrades (H/C/I, exhaust, tuning, wheels, brakes, suspension, new seats, ...) i'd probably run out of money before doing it all, but that would be my approach.

You said you wanted to maximize power :D

I'd focus on a stick trans GT :nice:

You'll pay a premium for the Cobra over the GT :(

I'd rather use the difference in money spent to have the ability to select the heads/intake of my choice ;)

what do you guys think about a 99+ gt compared to a modded out 95 gt. Dollar for dollar would i get more out of the 95 gt or a stock 99+. I have had many people tell me for what i want to spend i should go for the 99+

You need to drive both cars :nice:

It would be great if you could drive a pushrod with mods that would put it at the same hp level as the mod motor

As for my opinion ... you only need to look at my sig :rlaugh:

its all preferance. i think you would enjoy either one. however dollar for dollar and bang for buck, i believe finding a nice clean 94/95 GT would be the way to go. however the 99-04 GTs are dropping in price. theres a 02 black on black 5 speed car in my town with 58k for $9500 ( thats a really good deal...usually not hardly that cheap ). im thinking average 99/04s with 40-60k are maybe goin for $8500 - $13500. you can pick up a clean 94/95 with 80-100k for around $4000 - $7000.

if you can find a 94/95 for maybe $6000....u got $4000 for mods. trickflow H/C/I kits are like.....$2100 or $2200 (close to that).

5.0s are easier to work on and cheaper. parts are plentiful...

Just my opinion: if you're gonna get a stang and keep it pretty stock, get a lower mileage 99/04. if you're gonna mod it, get a 94/95 :D

up to you man :nice:

1. can you get a 99+ gt for $10k or less?

2. if you are going to leave it 100% stock, you might be happy with a 99+, just because 99+ cars are 5 or more years younger than 94/95 cars, so in theory they should have less wear and tear. that is my main issue with my car, it is 11 years old now and some things are pretty worn out.

3. if you are planning to get into modding it, then the same statement about how much more expensive it is and how there are fewer options applies

4. as grady says, drive both and see for yourself.

5. a 99+ 4.6 with an intercooled kenne-bell blower is a blast to drive, but those blowers are not cheap ($5k)

Lets say i get a 95 and put about 5k into it. Whats the the most hp/tourqe i would get out of it, and what setups would any of you recomend going with.

300rwhp NA is achieved fairly easily.

anywhere from 280rw - 320rw. just depending on what direction u go. u can always 'charge it but its always good to have a stouter bottom end.

that H/C/I trickflow kit and supporting mods 'can' give you 300 at the tires

It all depends on the type of deal you could swing too. A 99+ would be nice, but you have to find the right deal. If you want to stay mostly stock then just buy a 99+ and throw on the simple bolt-ons. If you're looker for more performance down the road and a cheaper initial buy price then go for the 94/95. Don't even bother with the Cobras unless you can swing an excellent deal on a 96-up version.

just get like a 95 cobra or gt... there is a bunch of cobras with low milage on autotrader by me for like $6500 ish... then just spend the rest to SC it... call it a day... i really wish i had $10000 to drop... If your in the NJ area check these...

for 5k i would get good heads and a cam, then get blackverts blower. thats about $3500 right there. spend the rest on supporting hardware, like full exhaust, TB, mass air, injectors, tune. ooohhh what i would do with 5k....

You have to ask yourself. What is your goal. Do you want a car with over 300 to the wheels? Do you want the newer or older body style? Do you want to be able to mod it inexpensively or do you not want to mod it much at all.

I think a 98 cobra would be a great buy. 300fwhp, alum. block, great h/c combo which takes extremely well to a blower.

But again, it's all in what you want in this car. How much work you want to do to it, etc. Weigh your options and post back.
