Hey all. Just checking in to see if anyone has ever compared the "canned" tune sold with the SCT XCAL II tuner and JLT II CAI system. I have been reading that the canned tune is ok but that a tuner like Fred at Evolution can get much better performance from a custom tune with this combination. I have been very happy with the canned tune, but would like to hear if anyone has found that a custom tune is better the canned one. By the way, I am running the 93 octane tune in my 06 automatic vert. Thanks! :nice:

I don't have my dyno sheet on hand, but when I ran my car the first time (CAI, X-pipe w/ cats, canned tune) I had about 270ish rwhp and my torque was around 290. After some tuning I had 289 rwhp and 308 ft.-lbs. torque. So you can see I gained a good deal from the tune. When you here people say they got 20+ rwhp out of a CAI it is from getting it tuned, don't expect these types of numbers from a canned tune.

I am currently in GA(main home), but I'm getting ready to go back to Fl for school.(BMW STEP) This is in Orlando, who is there in orlando that is good at tuning mustangs with the sct X-cal2. Or a place where I can get a custom tune.

unless you actually take your car to get a dyno all tunes you receive via email or such are "canned". They may create their tunes off dyno runs but that is for that specific car. Every car is different. You wont get 100% efficiency from these tunes but the tuners you mentioned have all provided really good tunes.

I am very pleased with the quality of the JLT intake and the tune he provided was specifically written by SCT to go with his intake. I am just wondering if a custom tuner will be able to provide a tune that is much better than the one written by SCT without being harmful/risky to the engine.

Yes

I will tell you yes for these reasons:

Your engine was not the one SCT used to write the tune, by that I mean that my engine doesn't run like yours or the next 05 GT in line. So to make something just for your engine and the way it is running would always be better than something some one wrote without ever seeing your car.

Elevation may only have a little effect on your car, but never the less it does effect it. Remember that the high above sea level you go the thinner the oxygen gets. You can see how this would effect combustion

A reputable tuner will not let you leave with anything harmful, just make sure you tell him/her that is is a strict strip or a street/strip or a hipo daily driver before they begin!

I had more but lost it :)bang:damn ADD:bang:) hope my $.02 help:nice:

If anything the custom tune will be safer than the canned tune. As lmmmmm said, every car is different even if it is the same make and model.
