Considering trading my 2001 Passat V6 for a 2006 Mustang V6 (or V8)

I went to the local Ford dealer today and test-drove the 2006 Mustang V6 AT (I have no interest in standards). As much as I love the look of the car, stock performance was barely mediocre in comparison to my Passat. They didn’t have a V8 AT on the lot, but am hoping its stock performance is much more impressive.

The V6 is really detuned from the factory. An SCT X-cal 2 tune from a reputable tuner truly wakes up the car and allows it to perform like it truly should. This is especially true of the stock auto that suffers from a noticeable throttle lag. But, if you want to stay stock, the GT will be a whole lotta fun!

+1 hamidlt. Spend a little extra for a tuner/CAI and it really wakes the car up. I own a GT and love it but, the 4.0s are very nice. Check some of the 4.0 forums and look at performance times, some pretty impressive times for minor mods. Good luck with the purchase!

So the V6 needs to be modified from day 1 to see its true potential. How do these mods effect warranty? Maybe I’ll hold off and see how Ford reacts to the inevitable upcoming muscle car war between Mustang, Camaro and the new Challenger.

vw sucks! how many times have u had it in for electrical probs? i had 3 vws and all of them sucked except my 91 gti that i put a vr6 in, but thats only cuz the whole car was wired correctly. get the v8 dont get the v6. mk5 gti commercials own tho.

I can't argue with that, but then again the Passat does have every electrical option under the sun (memory-heated seats, sunroof, radio controls on steering wheel, trunk latch, fuel door latch, and the truly annoying autosensing variable wipers). It's got great pick-up and an impressively smooth ride at high speed (90+). The reason I'm looking to get rid of it is it's had water problems and nothing could possibly be worse for a car with all these electronic gadgets.

Is there any notable difference between the 2005 and 2006 Mustang GT?

... go for the V-8, with a tuner/cai ...
At the risk of sounding dumb, what exactly does "tuner/cai" mean? Keep in mind I'm coming from the classics section of this forum where we still use words like: carburator, points and timing chain.

i have a 1999 yukon with EVERY option, and not one thing has ever broken or stopped working in it, except the fuel pump 1 time, and this thing has 195,000k miles on it. american cars rule! dont the 05s and 06s have a different computer?
