Charger and Mustang SHARE best muscle car award??

I think it's pointless to seperate "pony" cars and muscle cars nowadays considering how different the market is. Back when muscle cars were big, there wasn't much competition from foreign automakers so they had to break all the different groups of fast american cars into different groups. Now you have Sti's, evo's, etc. and the mustang, charger and gto. So why put one or two cars into the pony car category and another one or two cars into muscle car category? It makes no sense. A mustang is a muscle car plain and simple and other than people online, I hear no one else refer to them as anything else.

As for the vote, I think the sales numbers speak for themselves as far as who likes the mustang or charger better.

It's not really fair to compare Charger sales to Mustang sales, cause the Charger loses sales to the 300 and Magnum. Just like it wouldn't be fair to add up the sales of the 300, Magnum and Charger and compare it to the Mustang. DC has a huge hit with these LX platform cars, just like Ford has a huge hit with the new Mustang. I'd really like to see Ford come out with a Cougar based on the S197 (maybe with a bigger back seat!). The more the merrier. GM has some catching up to do. Japanese cars mostly fall into either the sports car category or econobox category--I'd call the EVO and STI hot rod econoboxes or sports compacts or something like that.

Regarding the whole muscle car thing, I'll never be able to consider the Mustang a muscle car. Heck, Mustangs created the whole "pony car" category (there are some that would argue that the 64 Barracuda created it, but we don't call them "fish cars"). I don't consider "pony car" to be the diminutive term that some people seem to think it is (though I know some Challenger and Cuda owners who get really pissed when people call their cars "pony" cars :rlaugh:). The only people who seem to consider Mustangs to be "muscle" cars are some newer Mustang owners, and people who know very little about cars.
