Met Civic on the way home:

Fact is, there are PLENTY of fast imports around now.

There are plain looking Civics on the street around here that run 11s on street tires...and the only visible modifications are their fart cannons.

Last time at the track I watched a Mitsubishi EVO run down a slick car on it's way to a 10.44 second ET....

Import performance is not my preference, but the fact is, it's here to stay...

thing is.. you probably have a 1/8th of the money in your car compared to him.. it takes money to just beat a stock mustang in any import.. once you do that.. to beat you like he did takes beaucoup moola.. all those imports running the big money have well over what mike (TT91) had in his car..

MOnte SS= Super Slug, my bro inlaw use to have one when he was my age, he said no matter what he kept doing to thing he couldnt beat his friend stock 5.0's so he sold it and bought a few 5.0's...lol. he's been a ford mechanic now for 10+ years...hahahah

What are your mods? Breaking loose in 2nd gear with good tires and 2.73 gears isnt common if your stock.

Mod list:

Stock engine with MSD Billet Dizzy with full exhaust (headers, catless h-pipe, into flows). Nothing huge. The tires broke loose mostly b/c the roads were a little wet and I might have revved it too high.

No doubt. I have to give the guy credit....no matter how bad it hurts. It was fun.

Yeah, I would have liked to have talked to the guy a little and see whats been done to his car. I'll go home the same way tomorrow and look for him. What would suck is if I stopped and talked to him and he was like, "Well, the car is stock except for the muffler. Its my sister's car, I was just borrowing it to go to the store. I'm only 13 and this was my first time to drive a car." That would suck for me.

I had a buddy just outta high school with a stock 92 mazda (type of mazda was some number) and he would wax my 86 Vert GT from any kick down... even like 30mph and I had full exhaust/headers/3.55's/no smog/world class tranny/k&n...

Then I got a *gulp* 95 Formula LT1 and waxed him all over the place... along with another guys 98 Cobra with cams or something. I had a flowmaster on the Formula and 2.73 gears...

That Formula gave out at 80,000 miles and had $3000 worth of damage to the motor after the dizzy block went out and destroyed everything electrical under the hood. The point to this...

Mustangs maybe slower stock, but they're not rice and not crap. Thank you and if you've read this far you are as bored as me :D

Picture of my car... it was dark out so quality isnt so great.

guy I used to work with had a POS Hatch Civic with a Type R motor in it.. Stripped... and it would keep right up with me... From a roll it was dead even... Off the line I'd kill him.. get 5 cars LOL... But it was QUICK. I'd def. say low 14s. Nothing to be ashamed about... There are def. quick ones out there.

O R L Y?

That's a real naive statement. You're the type that the local street racers love to take money from.

Yeah, it takes money to make anything fast...but it's pretty cheap and easy to make a DSM, 3000GT, WRX, EVO, or any of the factory turbo imports WAY faster than any stock GT Mustang.

Buddy of mine went 12.39 in a 94 GSX with what I believe was a stock motor and a bigger turbo/intercooler/injectors combo he scraped together for real cheap...another friend is expecting mid-12s this year from his STI with simple bolt-ons.

It takes alot of money, time, and effort to make a Civic fast...but all imports aren't Civics.

:stupid: I had an 02 WRX.... with the access port stage 2 kit i could get high 13's.. (stage 2 is catless uppipe, downpipe and accessport computer programmer... yea THATS IT!!!) my buddy is rockin an 06 WRX has his DD and they are turning 13.6's STOCK! doesnt take much at all to make em fast!! unfortunatly i sold it.. getting pretty serious with my GF and want to buy a house ASAP...

its tough tho id say go with the gears cause it will DEFINATLY wake her up, and i could totally understand where your coming from, its not easy as everyone is making it sound to just dump a blower on or HCI when you have a family to support.. Your Kids come first.. hell i dont even have kids in sight for the next 5 years and im already thinking of ways to soop up there power wheels like that kid on streetfire with the vette and the "nitrous" button :hail2:

Compare the price of some of those cars... to get into an AWD turbo DSM is usually atleast 8 grand roughly US (converting from Canadian $ market here :) ) and that's for one in crappy shape. 30000 GT you're looking at 13-15 grand, an 02 WRX 20 grand, a new one is 30, STi is the same price as a Mustang Cobra here! So just stepping in the car is a huge cost overhead comparing it to a 5.0. It damn well better be quick enough to beat a 25 year old car if you're paying that much for it

Back to the original topic, I got owned by an import last night too, lol... my buddy's RSX-S. They're quick cars that pull nice top end. Anyway, I have never tried to race my car before and didn't really want to launch it, so I lost from the start while spinning through 1st... when I hit 4th I was surprised at how much I was pulling on him considering how hard those pull on the top end, I definately would've got him if we had kept going. Ah well. Work on an actual launch. Get new tires :)

There must be quite a market for DSMs in Mississauga, Ontario. You can get into a clean one around here for $3K. American. ;)

30000 GT you're looking at 13-15 grand,

$8K.

an 02 WRX 20 grand

WTF

$10-14K in these parts.

a new one is 30

Strang, my buddy bought his 05 STI brand new for $30K.

STi is the same price as a Mustang Cobra here!

There is no Cobra to compare the price too right now.

The GT500 is substantially more expensive.

So just stepping in the car is a huge cost overhead comparing it to a 5.0.

Hey, I agree that 5.0 is one of the best go-fast-for cheap platforms out there...BUT so are DSMs.

It damn well better be quick enough to beat a 25 year old car if you're paying that much for it

Weak argument. Say that to the rice rocket that shows you tailights...

Furthermore, the WRX, EVO, STI, ect are comparable performance wise to Ford offerings right now and on a year to year basis.

I had a Neon SRT or whatever it is give me a fit the other day. He was ahead of me in the next lane and took off to not let me by him, but he didn't catch me halfstepp'n I was just getting ready to come outta 1st @ a normal RPM, but nailed it once I realized what was going to happen and was able to use the rest of the RPM's before quickly nailing 2nd. ............... You know I couldn't catch this guy, but he wasn't pulling away either. It actually looked like I was VERY slowly catching up. We (well I)didn't make it into 3rd, we were coming up on trafic. Never the less though that is one quick mudderfaulker.

I had one rev at me last week... the waste gates sound wicked on those Neons~ I wish I was 10 years younger and not afraid to lose my job... I'd have shown him why he shouldn't have bought it :D

Sorry, I don't believe those prices for a second. Our markets are virtually the same. Unless you're looking at cars that have a LOT of mileage on them.

What's a LOT of mileage? 100K? Since when you need a 40K mile car do go fast?

Show me a low mileage 5.0 for the prices you listed.

My friend bought a 95 Eclpipe GSM AWD with Turbo
for like $4500 cdn

Exactly...

Anyway, I'm done defending imports here. Don't get the wrong impression- my intent is that you guys don't go out there thinking that your 5.0 can't be beat, act like a cocky dick, and then get smoked. It makes us all look stupid.

I'll always root for the Mustang. :D Some of you guys just need to get to know your enemy a little better.
