To make things easy I was just going to delete the EGR and program the computer to not bother with that **** (not advance the timing and whatnot). But I'm not so sure if that's a great idea... BTW this is for a 92 Cougar not a Mustang
The reason I'm asking is because I installed a 93 Cobra intake with an angle adapter (didn't feel like doing a fox swap right away) and the TB is about an inch more outside so the throttle cables and TV cable won't stretch out that far. To fix this I modded my old bracket to change the angle of the cables and now that works perfectly but I don't have room for the EGR anymore. I'll double check if I can just mod the bracket more but I have a feeling I did all I could do with that bracket (cut it all up, welded a new part to it, etc...).
I understand the usage of the EGR; it recirculates exhaust gases into the combustion chamber on part throttle (turns off at WOT and idle). This cools down the combustion chamber to reduce nitrous oxide emissions. But the EGR system also helps reduce fuel consumption by advancing the timing, right? If I remove the entire system, what will happen? I think the intake air will be colder and denser to provide a stronger explosion (more volatile air/fuel mix?). As long as my computer doesn't go in "limp" mode to give a smaller less aggresive spark advance curve and more fuel which would create a power loss. I was thinking of just fooling the sensor by keeping the probe 1/2 way in (using zip ties or something) until I can get the computer retuned (I have a Mustang computer in there and I have a tweecer on the way).
