To make things easy I was just going to delete the EGR and program the computer to not bother with that **** (not advance the timing and whatnot). But I'm not so sure if that's a great idea... BTW this is for a 92 Cougar not a Mustang ;)

The reason I'm asking is because I installed a 93 Cobra intake with an angle adapter (didn't feel like doing a fox swap right away) and the TB is about an inch more outside so the throttle cables and TV cable won't stretch out that far. To fix this I modded my old bracket to change the angle of the cables and now that works perfectly but I don't have room for the EGR anymore. I'll double check if I can just mod the bracket more but I have a feeling I did all I could do with that bracket (cut it all up, welded a new part to it, etc...).

I understand the usage of the EGR; it recirculates exhaust gases into the combustion chamber on part throttle (turns off at WOT and idle). This cools down the combustion chamber to reduce nitrous oxide emissions. But the EGR system also helps reduce fuel consumption by advancing the timing, right? If I remove the entire system, what will happen? I think the intake air will be colder and denser to provide a stronger explosion (more volatile air/fuel mix?). As long as my computer doesn't go in "limp" mode to give a smaller less aggresive spark advance curve and more fuel which would create a power loss. I was thinking of just fooling the sensor by keeping the probe 1/2 way in (using zip ties or something) until I can get the computer retuned (I have a Mustang computer in there and I have a tweecer on the way).

I blocked off the ports under the manifold, threw the egr valve in my spare parts box, and shut it off with my chips tune. Works flawlessly. No more heating up the intake. The before and after intake temps are amazing. Worst case, you lose a mpg or 2 most and most likely only highway mileage.

The tweecer will solve all of your egr woes.

There is one Scalar to change, and all the problems go away.

I am still going to try hooking the egr back up on my car.
I will probably need it for emissions and I want to see the rumored mpg difference first hand.

I just started with the tweecer too, about a month ago now.
Check out my site for some getting started tips.
I add to it every now and again.

good luck

The egr plug ONLY affects the CEL.

It will not tell the computer that the EGR is non-functional, so the spark is not changed.

All it does is send a false reading to the computer, telling the computer that the EGR is working properly. The computer is fooled into not turning on the CEL.

I used one for a while, and the cel never came on, but one day it fell off the plug. :nonono:
I heard it bounce around under the car, then it disappeared behind me on the highway. :(

ebay has them as well.

There's an echo in HERE...Here...here... heheh
:OT:
Anyway... Vristang... what MAF are you using? Is it one that you had a flow sheet for or did you have to 'create' a transfer function? If so, how much of a PITA was it?

yeah, I tend to ramble on and on and on and on and on...

I don't remember what is in my sig, so here is my combo.
X3Z, Stock '90GT MAS (just the sensor), 73mm C&L w/ Clear Sample Tube, and a MAF Transfer published by C&L for a 73mm/Clear Tube/90GT MAS.

I had to switch the MAS for a A9L sensor, then I was able to load one of the MAF Transfers that C&L has published for the 73mm Tubes. I am using a Clear sample tube, since I already had one.

C&L does not have any MAF Transfers published for the 93 Cobra MAS. Switching the MAS was the easiest way for me to get the job done. The other option was sending the Cobra MAS to C&L so they could create a MAF Transfer for the 70mm MAS/73mm MAF combo.

With the use of EA it should be fairly easy to 'create' a MAF Transfer, assuming you can atleast get the car running. :rlaugh:

I did run this MAF Transfer through EA one time, but the change was insignificant. I am now trying to reduce the delta in the KAMRFs with the Injector settings, and it seems to be working pretty well. :nice:

See, there I go rambling again. :nonono:

How do you like that EA program? I've not purchased it yet and should probably get on the stick here soon.

Apologies for the delayed response.

EA is pretty good. The adjustments are pretty small, so if you are a long way from ideal, it can take a few tries to get there. But it still beats the guessing game that you would otherwise be forced to play.

I have been using it to dial in vBat offsets and injector slopes. I get an improvement each time through.

Deleting the EGR if blocked at the head will keep the intake cooler, and another advantage to an EGR delete is that it's one less thing that can go wrong. It will also keep carbon deposits in the intake and valves down. As far as HP goes, only the results of the cooler intake will be shown.

hey i have a '94 GT
the CEL came on n the codes read it to be an EGR problem
how crucial is this for me to fix cause i am kinda low on money.
My only concern is that so far the car is mint and has been maintained VERY well so i dunt want any permanent damage or any other or further problems... should i leave the car parked till i can fix it or drive it as usual and fix it when i can??? please help
