Hello all, new here ad have been doing alot of reading so far. I wanted to know from those who may have looked at these 2 cars and why they picked the cars they have. Now both have 300 horse from the factory,my goal is to have 375 to 400 horse with bolts on and head port and polish and different cam.Basically i want to know which of the 2 would be able to give me this power without breaking the bank?

forget about how to make power, the S197 puts it down to the gound so much better. the S197 vert is as rigid as a fox coupe with a cage.

Oh no, not this topic yet again.

Do a search, this has been discussed at least a dozen times before.

The 04 Mach 1 may be the best of the old Mustangs, but the 05+ are better overall cars, simple at that.

05 no doubt. The engine isn't the only thing improved over the previous generation. Either one can be made fast so i wouldn't worry too much about that side of things. Pick which car you like the best.

After owning a variety of Mustangs since I was a kid, including my beloved black '02 GT, I can honestly say that these new '05+ Stangs are the answer to a Mustang guy's dreams. One of the things we all love about Stangs is the way we can mod 'em to suit our individual tastes. And this new S197 is a freakin' awesome platform to build on.

And welcome to the club.

For me personally, that was a very difficult question to answer.. Because before I purchased my 05GT. I was wageing my own personal war, by that very same question, and had a really tuff time in deciding, meaning that each car had it's own characteristics, that I really liked..For example, I liked the Mach 1 because it was considered a limited edition, and would someday be worth a lot of money to a collector, plus it also had the 4 valve 4.6 simular to the Cobra 4.6 only without the blower, But on the other hand, I didn't like the styling(body style), it's restrictive exhaust and most of all, the car's Fox- 4 platform, which is now over 26 years old. So in the end, I chose the 05 GT. because of it's retro styling, it's all new platform, also the much improved factory exhaust, and of course it's all new 3 valve 4.6 design.. So for me, there were more positive factors, with the 05 than with the 04 Mach 1.. But I suppose it all boils down to what you're own personal tastes are, such as likes and dislikes are concerned..So in the end, only you can make the final decision for yourself, as to which car you feel is better..However, if you want my honest opinion..I feel the 05 Mustang is a much better car, all around..especially in design and technology, while at the same time, resurrecting the car's original herritage..Anyway, I wish you the best of luck, in you're choice..:nice:

I've said it before and I'll say it again.......In my opinion, there is no comparison between a new GT and an '03 or '04 Mach 1. I ditched an '04 Mach 1 for my '06, and the only thing that I slightly miss about the Mach is the Azure Blue color. That's why I chose Vista Blue for the GT.

The Mach 1s are great cars, don't get me wrong. But its like comparing apples to oranges; the 2 cars are so different that you can't fairly compare.

The mach 1 is running the same frame and suspension setup (of course revised springs and shocks) as my 5.0. My obvious choice was to go with the 05's coil overs, panhard bard with 3-link, and stronger frame then the old school four control arms and no coilovers for the past stangs. You can always make the new stangs look like a mach1, there are parts to do it. Of course, its not the real thing, but there is many 05 GT350 and GT500 and BOSS clones running round so its not a big deal.

And the setup you mentioned, is the modified version of the 5.0 Fox platform, re-named Fox-4 for the now outdated SN-95 platform, which is still nothing more, but the old Fox platform, only modified..However, the basic platform itself, is now over 26 years old, in which BTW: I had already mentioned, in my last post...Also, before I purchased my 05 GT, I owned an SVT Limited Edition, 93 Mustang Cobra for 12 years.. which was the only production Fox Bodied Mustang, to ever have it's platform modified and revised, that was offically compared to the Fox-4 SN-95 Mach 1.. Although you're quote about the Mach 1, running the same frame as you're 5.0, may be correct..However, on the other hand.. You're statement about the suspension setup being the same, is completely inaccurate and false.. The suspension setup, was only available on the SVT 93 Cobra's revised modification, of the (Fox platform)

I always thought the same thing, that 99-04 cars were just band-aid cars with an outdated chasis and interior. I test drove 5 05/06's 6cyls and gts, manual and auto. I really was not that impressed. The handling is decent but the gt's seemed rather lazy in acceleration. My test drive impressions plus the sticker shock of a gt with a few options left me looking elsewhere. Let me be the first to tell you that a 5.0 fox and any stang newer than 99 are two completely different cars. Sure they may use the same chasis with few modifications but the chasis is the least of your problems with a 5.0. The 4 inches of play in the steering wheel, drum brakes in the back and small discs in the front, body roll, etc. I will say though that i would much rather have a pushrod motor than these modular motors. You cant beat the fun factor of a 5.0. jmo for what its worth.

Mach vs. S-197

Go with the '05/'06 without a doubt. I had a 2000 GT 'vert that I loved, but my new '06 is light years ahead. There is so much new technology in the S-197- suspension, 3 valve head (which I read is superior to the 4 valve head), and the styling is sauce for the goose. The new intake trac plates are a good thing because they improve low end torque. The variable valve timing helps give you power and better mileage. The Mach 1 is awsome, but no contest for the new gen Mustangs. 300 HP, 20 MPG on reg gas-it's magic!
