Can someone point me toward a site or someone from the group for swapping out the clutch assembly on a A/C unit, plus clearances for the clutch assembly. 90 Mustang GT. I did a R-134 converson, all new parts, compressor is fine, just the clutch died, lasted 1 year and 15 days. Out
of warrenty. Had to buy a new one.

The last time I did one the instructions were a set of instructions included inthe box. It's a pretty straight forward install. You'll need a set of reversable snap ring pliers to get at the snap ring burried up next to the pulley. If you buy the complete clutch assembly, they usually come with the correct shims already in place.

I bought the complete clutch assembly from AutoZone, but it's not assembled.
It looks like there's 3 main pieces, snap rings and about 5 or 6 small washers,
which looks like the shims. I ask him if it didn't come already assembled and shimed. He said no, at least not from them. I guress now I'll learn how the
clutch assembly on an A/C unit works.....

I don't remember what the exact spacing was. Should be simple enough to determine though. Put all the pieces in place but don't bolt anything down. With the engine "off" and the accessory switch "on", engage the A/C. If you can turn the clutch hub by hand then take a shim out. With the A/C off, if you can't turn the hub, then put a shim in. Once you got it straight, you can bolt it all up.
