For all you v6 owners time to see which exhuast system acheives the deepest tone for a v6 flowmaster or magnaflow. This post is not only to help myself with ideas on which set up to go with but to help other v6 owers who are looking for a quality sounding cat back system so all your imputs are well appreciated. i have stock headers and cats with a custom x-pipe and magnaflow mufflers. the pipes are all 2.25" and the sound is deep at idle and low rpms and as they get higher, its not just a loud drone like flowmasters, but more of a race-type sound. im installing side exhaust with 2.5" pipes and mac LT headers and h-pipe soon and im getting magnaflow mufflers for that too

2.5" pipes into two cats, into two 40 series flowmasters and out 3" tips. Never used magnaflows or heard them so I can't compare. Link to clip of my exhaust:

Why just those two brands?
Mac has a good tone without being trashy loud.
Borla's the best, but costs more.
I don't even know why Flowmaster would be considered good, honestly. They're just loud. If I'm trying to be obnoxious, I'll just put glasspacks on.
The one I haven't heard is Ravin. Mustang Monthly tested all the different brands on one GT, and said Ravin was the most aggressive souding of them all. They're probably not as popular though cause you can only buy them at Midas.

its definitely not raspy. as for the rice, its not rice as in a civic with a can on it. at 60-65 on the highway, its barely audible and its a low sound. an h-pipe usually has a deeper tone than an x-pipe, but the x-pipe is better performance wise. the magnaflows are a straight thru muffler instead of a chambered muffler like the flowmaster and the guy who put my system together said it would sound better with an x-pipe. i wanna switch to an h-pipe because it matches up the new headers and because together they will deepen the tone more

Thats just a myth.. the point of a flow through exhaust system is to allow the engine to breath better thus increasing horsepower and whenever you increase hp torque will either stay the same or increase too but never decrease.
As for the debate between flowmasters and magnaflows, I've got flowmasters but I wouldn't necessarily say magnaflows are worse. I personally like the deep sound of the flowmasters vs the performance sound of he magnaflows but its really up to whoevers buying them.
Also i like what 97sally's doing by puttin that H-pipe in with the magnaflows.. that should make a pretty true tone

It sounds ok, But i liek loudness on my stang, I want everyone on my block to hear me came up the block. I want the sound to be close to a GT. Im thinking in the future to buy the magnaflow to see how they will sound in my stang.If not then im going to trade it for a GT instead which will be better. For Now i'll will have to make the best out of the V6 stang.

First off a mid pipe isn't required for a V6....the midpipe is for equalization of the gas pulses on a V8 engine. secondly the Magnaflow will give you slightly more power due to its str8 thru design as opposed to the flowmasters chambered muffler. I personally like the sound of the magnaflows better as well, but if you want a loud muscle car rumble you definately want a chambered muffler like flowmaster.
When I had my V6 I got the Y pipe cut then ran str8 pipes back with Magnaflows welded in and it sounded amazing for a V6.
My vote is for magnaflow hands down, I currently have them on my GT right now and will never use anything but magnaflows.

magnas are deep (expecially for straight thrus) and have better performance. But for the closest possible to a V8, you have to get a cam, LTs, and chambered mufflers. A cam costs some, but the install is alot of money, and if you do a cam, might as well utilize the cam and get P&P heads, intake, RRs, pushrods, springs, ect.

I'm in the same situation as bkstang lol i bought the car with the system on it.. all i know is that its a full flowmaster exhaust my guess is the 40 series. I should probably ask the guy i bought it from, i'm just too lazy. If i find out i'll let u know tho.
