Ok guys, short and sweet. Attempting to separate the transmission from the bellhousing and I have 3 of 4 bolts out...I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the high passenger side one out. I can get a 15mm wrench on it, but I have no room to move because the wrench is hitting against the floorboards...I almost feel like I need a smaller wrench handle...just so I have some room to break the bolt free.

I'm pretty sure there's no room to get a socket in there...in addition, the long tubes are turning out to be a huge PITA as far as maneuverability goes.

how the hell do I get that thing off?

I just had my auto out a few months ago and we took the the lowers out first and then started to drop the trans with the jack and it allows you to use a long extension and socket...I have the TFS heads and intake and the engine tilts but does not hit......

of course I just take the h pipe off and just get it out of the way....put it back in the same way...get the bottom bolts in and lower the trans to get the engine to tilt back and then insert the top two....

Is the auto bellhousing the same? I don't think there's room for an extension as there isn't even room for my smallest ratchet. dropping the transmission down a bit is a good idea though, I'll see if that helps...how far do you think you can drop it before you'd screw anything up?

When I did mine I had another set of hands helping and when I started to lower the trans jack I had him watch the rear of the engine to make sure it would not hit.......I didn't have any problems doing it that way......so far as the bell housing I have an auto...havn't looked at the stick but the diameter should be about the same......

I'll be right where you are next Friday...that's the day I chose to install the new 3400 stall......I do remember using a very long ext. but with the tranny tilted downward getting the socket on and getting the bolt loose was not a problem.........lower that sucker and get er done.....:rlaugh:

Ok bud...I'll give it a try...can't believe I didn't think of just lowering it abit...I guess I was just scared I'd screw up the transmission or the engine. I could definitely use another pair of hands...none of my friends seem to care about working on cars at all. kinda sucks.

Hey , just ask your girl, neighbor , anyone just to lean over the hood and watch the rear of your engine......I would put one of the bottom bolts back in and get the top out first...then take the lower out......we did the same thing with my friends LT1 camaro when taking the trans out and he def. has less room than we do.....pm me and let me know how it goes....

Girl is REALLY pissed at me right now...lol...I'll get my step dad to help tomorrow...I don't think it will need to come down that much...I think even an inch would give me the space I need....then a good karate chop and it should loosen up...I'll let you know...and post some pictures too!

15mm short socket with a swivel and about 2 feet worth of extensions is all you need. tilt the motor back a bit as said and get at it like that. having an extra set of hands under the car is a good idea too. the t5 isnt that heavy but it would definitely suck for it to fall, especially on you.

Yeah, I would use a bunch of extensions and do it from behind the tranny. I think I had at least 3 feet of extensions to get to perfect spot and a swivel at the socket.

Update:

Last bolt is out of the bellhousing and the tranny out. Now the longtubes are making things incredibly hairy. Anybody have any advice on the most efficient way to proceed from here? It seems as though the longtubes are so in the way that I can't access any of the bolts from under the car. If I am to go at them from above, what lines do I need to remove? How much of a pita is it to remove the long tubes at this point?
