I love the 71-73 stangs (here's a few pics)...they can be downright mean and fast with the right equipment and when done right, (the '71 Boss 351 was the quickest Boss of the bunch BTW and the last year the 429 big blocks were offered in a production Mustang) Their looks were deceiving, the cars were only slightly larger than their predecessor and weight was much dependent on the options of the car. My '71 weighs 3200 lbs with built small block, big and littles, ram air hood, 1/4 tank of gas and no weigh reduction except AC and rear seat delete. :nice:

I beg to differ.. the 71' was proven to be extremely fast but they had a street test and took OEM bosses that had been stored and the 70' 429 boss took the cake.. also it finished 1st in the muscle car shootout to see what was the baddest car of the time.. it spanked "the judge", GTOs, LS1 chevelles (not the new modular type motor but the 454s), and 396 camaros.. as well as all the hemis.. of course im going off of what speed TV and many of the other popular car shows have tested and proven..

It could be a 71, most 71s had a chrome front bumper but you could also get them with the rubber one that was on all 72s and 73s. 73s had vertical front turn signals instead of the horizontal ones like whats on the 71s and 72s. You could option any 71-73 mustang however you wanted it. You could get a mach 1 without scoops, you could get a ghia with scoops and a Q-code 351. The best way to distinguish whether or not its a mach 1 other than looking at the vin that I know of is to look at the interior, mach 1s got the delux interior, which consisited of different door pannels, seats, and 3 gauges in the center of the dash above the radio.

I do know of the musclecar shootout TV show you are referring to on Speed and the Boss 429 did win (glad it did too) but there was no Boss 351 Mustang in that lineup.

Course we all know the Boss 429 had huge potential to tap into as it was less than optomized in stock form with a small 735 cfm carb, mediocre cam profile and restrictive exhaust. I've seen plenty of literature showing better 1/4 mile times for the Boss 351s over the Boss 429 and 302s and be more comparable with the '68 1/2 428 CJs.

Mustangs & Fords awarded the Boss 351 "Best Boss Engine" & "Fastest Factory Boss" http://www.mustangandfords.com/thehistoryof/173_0402_boss_35_years/index4.html
(from what I read seems that while the Boss 429 was right there with the 351 in performance, they determined that the Boss 351 ran in the high 13s in stock form more consistently in almost every magazine test performed) - so seems depending on who was doing the testing at the time, e.t.s varied, so we'll call it a toss up :nice:

Mustang Monthly: "The amazing thing about the '71 Boss 351 road tests is the middle-block-powered fastback ran as quick as the earlier 428 Cobra Jet Mustangs."

Quick cars, both of em!

Poster: Could you get me a phone number so I can call the owner.
Thank You

SPEEDYSTANG: The for sale sign did not state the phone number or the price for the car. HOWEVER, I am 100% sure the owner is working at the building behind the parked car. It woulnt take me but 15 minutes to find out all the info once I was there. So, if you are serious, shoot me a pm and I will get the info for you. Hell, I kinda wanna know myself to just to know. So either way, just say something.

i love all mustangs...some more than others...but i even like the II's...the II's did have their place in mustang history, helped our favorite ponycar limp through the rough gas starved seventies...i love foxes the best and all the rest kinda fall even with each other...the II's do bring up the rear though...i like all different ones more or less based on options and modifications as well...
