06 or 03 Cobra?

Hey guys,
After at least 4 years I'm BACK! I used to have an 01 V6 and had a bunch of issues with it and got Ford to take it back. After that I have been on an import buying streak, I have a Toyta SUV and I had a Honda Prelude that I turbocharged and just sold.

Now since I am done with the mess of history. I am looking for another stang. You always come back right? I found an 03 Cobra Vert I am really interested in and I also just drove a 06 GT today. I am leaning more towards the 03 for obvious reasons (lets see 100+ more HP). Can anyone tell me why I should consider an 06 more than I am? They drive very nice, and I truely believe Ford finally crafted a strong body Mustang and I am happy about that. BUT, I love the way the 03C vert looks and I love the way it has a lot more power. Any suggestions? I know the opinions are going to be somewhat biased, but that was the point of coming on here.

Thanks

WOW need to change that old sig.

Been a couple of days and no one has weighed in with any 06 benefits. So here is another 03 benefit. 03 has seen a lot of depreciation, 06 has seen none. If you really want an 06, it probably means that you REALLY want the Shelby!!, why not get the 03, have fun for a year or two and then see if you want to trade in, with less of a hit for the Shelby?

Just a thought.

Not to piss anyone off, but I am not a fan of the 05-06s at all. They look OK but the performance of the 03 Cobra far outweighs that of the new Stangs. If you want the baddest Mustang ever produced, buy an 03 Cobra. Cobras are also a lot more rare than the 05-06s. If you want that retro styling and if you want to blend in with everyone else on the road, buy the 06.

i will chime in and say that 20 minuts before i dynoed my completely bone stock 03' cobra and walked away with 362 rwhp....an 06 gt with a saleen supercharger and other bolt-ons earned a respectable, but in my opinion - not worth it factor - of 375 rwhp.....i say this because my untouched 03 cobra that i paid $24k for used w/37k miles, put down an almost equall amount of power as a brand new 06' gt that cost about 29k out the door with 6k worth of mods did...and as a bonus....i got a 6-speed tranny and the infamous svt additions such as brakes, irs suspension, svt interior...and who could help but ignor those cobra emblems and that cobra rear bumper???....trust me, i was in your position as a toss up when i was searching for the replacement stang...and i am most deffinatly not dissapointed with my 03' cobra decision...

If you like the "strong body" feel of the 06, just get the 03 cobra with H&R Race Springs and MM Full length subframes like I did. The car is SOLID.

A good 03 cobra is getting harder and harder to find. Get it now and see how you feel about the new style in a couple years.

With just a Bassani X w/cats, Borla stingers, predator tune and JLT CAI, my car is putting down 450rwhp and still has its warantee. Course I paid extra for a factory freak, but for the money you can't beat it.

A used '03 costs about the same as a brand new '06. They haven't depreciated much at all really. I've been seeing low mileage stock '03's sell for as much as 27K. That's a loss of 6K under original MSRP for a car that's almost 4 years old.

U.M.

Meat, the depreciation is certainly not like other Fords (or domestics in general), but my 03' was 27k with 20k miles with a sticker of 35k (convertable), and new GTs convertables are in the 33-35k (MSRP) range, so 8k under sticker for a car that kills an 05' 06'. Not to mention that the 03-04's can be heavily modified before the whole engine has to be done, wheras the 05+'s do not have forged internals etc., so have a limited amount of power still to give with reasonable safety.
