Hey guys, My car has about 140,000 Miles on the motor. No Smoke, compression tested good. I did a leak down test but the tested only went in about 1 turn.. so that was pointless. I have a HCI on the car right now. So the top end is pretty fresh, head gaskets/intake gaskets. Also replace the rear seal and oil pan gasket. Money is pretty hard to come by for me, and i want the car to have a blower so bad i can taste it. I was wondering, how would my motor hold up if i was to install the kenne bell on it? Running maybe 6-9 psi? Granted i wont be going WOT all the time. Do you think the engine will take it? Or if at the very least would i be safer installing some new bearings in the motor before putting a blower on it? WOuld i have to upgrade my fuel system? Im currently running 24/lb injectors a holly fpr, and a bbk 255 lph pump. Basically if i find the the motor would hold up, the plan is to install the blower, then drive the car. After i pay off the blower saving for a new shortblock to build up. So basicaly what do you guys think? Do you think she will handle it? I did a search but found very mixed opinions so i figured i would post my own.

Thanks Guys!
Mike

fuel system upgrades are a must, i would think 30lber atleast maybe more, so in addition to the blower you have to get a new mass air meter. The motor is tough it will take alot. but a 140,000 babied miles and 140,000 hard miles are a world of difference, plus if this is your daily driver and things are tight money wise what happens if it blows, the weak link in a 5.0 is the block it will split before the rods or crank break none of this should happen at the power level you are shooting for, if you put new berings in it the motor has to be aprt so not putting atleast new rings in would be silly, the 87 has forged pistons so if in good shape the stockers should be fine, with any build there is always hidden costs, and those add up to kill you if you only budget just for the huffer

Hmm, you made a good point about the 87 having forged pistons... but unless he has converted to Mass-Air his car is still speed density so he just cant simply switch to a caliburated MAF.

At the moment my car has 6 psi and blowby. My rings are shot but this car still pulls like a mother F'er and has plenty of oil pressure. I dont see why you wouldnt be ok. How about start building a shortblock for it slow so you have something to back yourself up with, thats what I did.

yeah umm i forgot the 87 had sd sorrry, please disreguard, i just was looking at all the sd stuff thinking of buying a 86 four-eye, and from what i found on here it seems that the blower is the way to go on those cars
