This car is actually a pal of mines (20k miles) and he has not pulled the motor yet. But here is what happened, He had a Vortec supercharger installed by the dyno shop here in town they tuned it did all the appropriate changes and when he picked the car up they told him his boost was running right at 12 PSI and to run no less than 92 octane. One week later the car makes a loud knock and when he went to restart the car it turned over like it was way advanced time then started and knocked very rapidly. I am guessing a spun bearing. Whats your guess here of the procuring problem?

Stock GT motor
There's your answer. Not saying a stock motor won't run for a while sucking up 12psi (since a couple of memebers here are doing it), but you've got to have a really conservative tune and keep a nice rich A/F ratio to keep it happy. My guess is that it detonated, broke the piston ring land and took out at least one rod and piston with it. It might even be possible that he then smashed it/them into one or more open valves, which would most likely bend a valve and or break one or more of the cam feelers making a mess of the top end of the motor as well. Basically.....I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but when these things go, they go big. He's probably going to be looking at $2,000-$3,000 for a built short block.

....live and learn. :(

"the shop" in Lincoln Nebraska. They said they had done tons of these without any problems. My pal asked him directly if 12 psi was too much and he said no it would be fine. My pal is not going after them but he deserves the right to broadcast there incompetence i would say.

damn...let us know how it turns out--meaning what the shop does for him...

This is a whole other debate, I now both peeps positions and know the risks involved changing from stock. BUT if the tuning company is paid 1500 bux to tune a car and represents themselves as professionals in there field and make a blatent mistake, YES i do feel they should be partially or fully responsible depending on the severity of the negligence. In this case they have told him SORRY.

that is too much boost for a stock block, and the tune had to due with it too.....what kind of gas was he runing since a few states have that ethanol chit or something like that

Was just looking at his dyno sheets and HP was 338 if that gives you an idea of how hard they were boosting it.

338 seems low to kill a block.

Im putting down that and ~440 TRQ.

I wonder if he got screwed by the ethenol deal.

You should find out what the timing was set at and what the a/f was. Where are the dyno graphs?

wow...1500 bucks to tune and then this...really sucks

and I'm guessing they're sticking to their guns about 12 psi being perfectly safe on the tune they put in...

werd--his tune must have been really fudged--to be running 12 psi and only 338 hp...stevie wonder must have been tuning...
