Choosing a UDP

For you 6ers that have already gone through this process... which UDP would you recommend. I've got the '00 which requires the modified balancer, so that alone ups the price a bit...

So far the only companies that I've found that make these are ASP, MotoBlue, and Steeda. I know nothing about ASP or Motoblue so I am leaning towards going with the Steeda. Will this require a new belt or will the old one fit? Steeda has a belt on there for $45 which makes me wonder... Is there anything other than a torque wrench and a puller needed to get this done?

Thanks for the tips.

For one, you need to find out which 2000 type pulley you have. Look at the balancer, if it is completely flat all around, its the 01-04 series with internal balancing. If there is a spot that comes out a bit, it is the 99-00 series with external balancing.
http://rpm-mustangs.com/cart/product.php?productid=16161&cat=325&page=1 that is the 99-00 and also has a comparison image to help you see the extra weight on the 99-00.
http://rpm-mustangs.com/cart/product.php?productid=16162&cat=325&page=1 is the 01-04 pully. Both are $155.

Pully puller, torque wrench to get the belt off, and a longer installer bolt will help get the pulley back on. I got a new, shorter Gates 96 inch belt for $40 at the local auto store, and that site I posted above has a 96" belt for $30.

VMPtuning says "8 RWHP and 7 RWTQ gain with 25% UD crank pulley", and http://www.miracerros.com/mustang/pulley_tech.htm says a 25% won't effect you unless you have an upgraded stereo, in which all you need is an OverDrive altenator pulley.

$30. VMP has the UDP, the alt ODP, and the belt for $205.

I've got the earlier series pulley. I don't have any of those tools, but I can borrow some from a guy at work and the rest I'll try and borrow from Autozone. So all in all there isn't much difference between the UDP brands? No massive stereo system here... basically stock

Thanks for the links. Much difference between going just straight with a 25% UDP all the way or with the link you sent which has the 25% UD and the 18% overdrive for the alternator? I'm not worried about accessory loads so I'm ok with going with the 25%....

The STEEDA belt is NOT 45 bucks. It is $65!! Them asses still haven't updated thier site? I called about getting charged the extra $20 for the belt. Guy on the phone told me they have been $65 for the last 2-3 years. BS!! I bought thier belt and UDP for my other Stang 8 months ago and it was $45.

Search Google or Yahoo for the UDP and there is a site that gives you the Kragen belt number which costs $40-45.

EDIT: Here is a step by step with tools required.
Step 11 gives you the part number for the belt, it's actually $20.

I have no problems with only the 25% pulley in So Cal. Aftermarket stereo but that's about it.

Geez, sounds pretty shady. I still haven't decided which I'm going with (Steeda, ASP, or the one from VMP) frankly they all look the exact same to me... and the only thing drawing me away from VMP is the 18% overD... if I'm going to do it I want to do it all the way.

They all are pretty much the same. They are all made of a metallic material that is pretty tough, I've held a few different brands when I was at a shop one day. VMP does sell the UDP and belt only without the 18% OD, I'm just getting that one because Automatic with a stereo require a bit more power, and I like to stay on the safer side.

"Includes UD pulley, balancer, and shorter belt." $180 < No 18% OD for the altenator.
They also sell the longer bolt that helps with the install, and trust me, it helps A LOT. You should not use a hammer on the balancer, but I had an impact gun and stuck a large rubber piece on it then stuck it in the center of the pulley, sucker went on pretty fast lol.

You don't need to "do it all of the way" if you don't have a high amp stereo system. In the link I provided, the guy has X amount of miles in Arizona with no over heating, A/C or battery drain problems.

I would recommend ASP since Steeda lied to me about thier prices. The ASP part numbers are also in the link I posted.
