V6 Reliability?

Last night I was in the supermarket and I saw the new Consumer Reports car-ratings issue. As an avid Mustang owner, I had to have a look.

Turns out that CR recommends the S197 Pony, but they dinged the V6 for possessing below-average reliability.

Me, I've put 20,000 trouble-free miles on my 05 V6 Mustang. The machine hasn't missed a beat. (Of course, I also purchased the 100,000 mile warranty, so if my mill blows, Ford's buying me a new one.)

What about the rest of you -- how are your V6s holding up?

Mine has been in the shop numerous times. Last time they had it for 2 1/2 weeks. One problem i had was it was missing on 2 cylinders. Then it was taking off in second gear, and ended up being a computer problem. I'm kind of scared now that my warranty is over.... And the people at Ford are very hard to deal with over here.

I'm at 18.5K with nary a hic-up ... :nice:

Never trust Consumer Reports, as majority of the products they recommend are, in reality, crap. Just recently, when they reviewed car waxes and polishes, they ranked Nu Finish and Turtle Wax among the top, while Meguiar's was not recommended by them. Come on - who in here actually uses the $5 Turtle Wax on their Mustang and actually likes it?

As far as V6 reliability goes, mine's at the 15,000 mark with no TSBs or any sort of issue.

Sorry to hear that, 05StangGirl!

My machine goes in for its 20K service on Wednesday. Now, my miles are very easy -- I only use my Pony to commute to work and back, about 80 miles a day, almost all of it highway driving.

I don't trust CR, either. Glad to hear everybody else is getting good results from their V6s! :nice:
