I had an original MSD TFI coil that came in loose in the frame. The coil could move back and forth in the frame. I sent it back as I figured it was sure to fail eventually due to vibration -- they (a company who will remain nameless...Summit) sent me another one (after I asked them to check it) that had the same problem. I sent it back and got another one in the same condition. I epoxied it to the frame and installed it. It still works today. I have since gotten TFI coils from MSD and they've been epoxied to the frame, just like I did to mine, so they seemed to have fixed the problem.

Basically, with my long, drawn out post, I am asking if yours was loose in the frame -- possibly killed by vibration?

Mine was loose in the frame when I bought it several years ago, sent it back to Summit and got another one and it was the same way, so I called MSD and they told me that they are all like that. I ended up using some tie-wraps and making it tight with the frame around it.

I had one that arced out between the mounting bracket and coil body. You could see a nice blue light show around it in the dark. It also caused a high RPM miss.
I had the same thing happen, except I didn't see the arc until I had stuck my finger in it. I can verify that they are high output coils.

I replaced it, and that coil has been in place for a good 20k miles now, maybe closer to 40k.
