New Laptop!!

It was time for me to get a laptop for college soon, and i really wanted an HP since they were rated so well, and they are a great value. It just so happened that the one i wanted was on sale for memorial day so i got it as an early grad present:nice: Lemme know what you guys think about it, and HP in general...

Heres what it has:
17" widescreen
AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology processor
1.6ghz
100gb hd
1024 mb ram
ATi radeon xpress 200m graphics card
cd/dvd burner
6 in 1 card reader
lots of ports lol
media package

I have one question for any of you widescreen users...is there any way to make a desktop that doesnt distort when you make it the full screen??

You must have been shopping with me or something. I just bought the EXACT same laptop on Sunday. We got it at Circuit City.

I am huge AMD fan. Not too much for intel. I seem to have a lot better luck with AMD.

Hope you like it as much as I like mine. My last one took a dive last week. They want almost 375 bucks to fix it. Not worth it.

Athlon .... nice.
Actually it's a Turion, not an Athlon.

I too am an AMD fan, but Intels core duo kicks the Turions ass. It will even outrun some of the most top end AMD Athlons and Opterons right now. As soon as Merom comes out from Intel, it's only going to get faster.

Nice laptop. :nice:

I personally have a Dell Inspiron 9300.

haha yea i got mine on monday...memorial day sale:D $1099 for you too?

I think prices vary a little from coast to coast. Here it was $1050 with $150 in rebates. I got 10% off the digital camera I bought for military, but they would not do it on the laptop. Oh well...

Cool thing is, I bought a SD card for my camera, Its a 2Gig card, it was $85 with $70 in rebates. I wanted two, but they only give you the rebates on one.

Good luck with it. I have been using mine like crazy......

same! this thing has so many awesome features, not to mention its my first new computer...i've always had ****ty hand me down computers, which have been fine, but theres just something about a new, fast, computer....and the fact that i can go sit on the couch with it, or lay down in bed with it:nice:

Nice looking lappy.Im not really impressed with HP and never have been.Personally, even though there not really mainstream anymore,I use toshiba lappys. There incredible machines, extremely stable and fast as hell.My first computer ever was a HP with an AMD in it.Since then,Ive built 7 machines, never use HP or AMD products again.Ima gamer and need the fastest most reliable computer I can get.Time and time again I find myself smoking even the 64 bit processers and im still on a p4 3.4 extreme. You see,the thing is,most people just cant keep there machine properly tuned.Even though logically the 64 bits should be faster, you can get the same performance with increased reliability from a p4.Im not gonna pretend ive owned a 64 bit yet,my conclusions are based on several online tests.Such as 3dmark and sisoft sandra.Everytime I run these baselines,im always in the top 100 of the nation.Try to understand what hyperthreading actually accomplishes,64 bit its not,but screaming fast it can be.Even in its infancy stage, the p4 64 bit processers being released now for buisness use and the homeline thats being released soon, are smoking the fastest rated AMD's on the market.I hate to knock another product, but like the nvidia and ati war,you get what you pay for.

thanks for the info dude, but i'll admit, about 1/2 of what you said was german to me....as far as im concerned, HP was rated very high in consumer reports, and in PC magazine, and for what i paid, i think i got a machine thats more than enough for what im gonna use it for...i dont play games, so it doesnt really matter to me...so far, this thing has far surpassed my expectations....

Sweet notebook man. I was thinking of getting an HP or a Toshiba, but I couldn't resist this kick ass deal from Dell.

I was jus saying,A game machine far surpasses any computer statiscally. So,to me anyways, this is the type of computer to set a baseline to build off of to make sure you get a computer that can run not only old applications but upcoming ones aswell. You dont have to play games to appreciate the power of a gaming PC.It is a nice PC,but you asked what we thought about HP in general,I was just giving my thoughts on the company is all.I suppose I came across as being a bit pompus,I apoligize, this truly wasnt my intention.
