Burnout question?

Man, that could involve pretty much everything in the drivetrain. A lot is dependentent on how it is done, I've seen some that never break anything for the life of their Car but on the other hand I've seen people blow motors from reving too high doing a burnout, I've seen clutches explode, flywheels break, bell housings crack, trannys go to shreads, u-joints pop, driveshafts bend, ring and pinions destroyed and axles snap!!

I was just trying to find out if I was to do a long burnout without using the brakes at all and just messing around and doing some 360's if all that would be damaged would be the rear tires:nice:

Also remember that if your power breaking, your rear brakes are dragging the rotors a little. So there is some wear on those too.

I 've gotten alittle carried away with the burn out and almost red lined the motor. So make sure you pay attention to that.

donuts can be hard on your axles/c-clips. Oh and let's not forget the infamous video of the guy roasting tires for like 4 min straight and popping the 2v in his car. But if doing long burnouts are your thing, make sure your cooling system is good, might think about a low rpm rev limiter, and oh yeah TAKE VID'S and post them . :D

Ive only done one burnout (not just from taking off fast, but actually meaning to), and one donut in my Mustang so far. I will say that the donut felt much less abusive on the whole car.

The burnout was easy, all I did was revved it up and popped the clutch... but it didnt feel too good for the car. It revved alot higher than I thought it would as well, almost bumped the limiter.

The donut didnt take any effort, just got the wheels turning and turned the wheel, around we go...:D

I always figured the initial snap of a burnout was the hardest part on the drivetrain. The burning out portion just seemed like 'low speed freeway driving'. I see the speedo quoting me 70, but people are walking by me.
I've never had much of a rev limiter problem with burnouts, but I always do mine from second gear. So much more smoke, and the patches are so much longer and darker. Of course, this isn't something I do everyday, so I can't give you a quote on hardware longevity. And, to tell you the truth, I feel burnouts are much safer on you and the car than a donut, granted you know what you are doing. Be safe and have fun.

i cant do a burnout

you must drive an 04 GTO my friend says his wont do one:shrug:

my other friend has a 93 cobra and does like 7 donuts a day and burns tires off because he gets plugged ones from cop cars for free.

he has no problems beats the car like crazy never broke anything

I drive my car like I want too I enjoy spinning the tires gettin a lil sideways and doing donuts and my car has no problems and if something does break i will just fix it.

I didnt buy a MUSTANG to drive it like a honda

If I wanted traction all the time I woulda bought a AWD or FWD car

that just me:shrug:

Are you sure he didnt mean the cops eat 7 donuts a day? :rlaugh:

That was pretty funny. :)

I used to do 360's, burnouts, 'ass kicks' (as I call them), and much more insanity. I never broke anything with respect to the driveline. My clutch and TOB are trash but they are also 9 years old.

Having 'been there and done that', I wouldn't recommend doing a rediculous amount of burnouts because if you DO break something, that will be more hassle than it's worth. IMO. Just be safe, not stupid. :flag:
