What's the deal with Dodge pickup truck drivers?

Yeah I love my dakota, I am on my third one... What can I say, my dakota has a fullsize suspension and I have put close to or over 3000lbs in it a few times...

Try that with a ranger or a colorado....

Now my father has an 04 f150 QC with the 5.4l engine in it. The engine is AWESOME, trans is OK, and the rest of the truck sucks... horrible suspension, interior, etc....

So I guess everyone has thier opinion....

my freind has a 2000 dakota r/t with a 5.9. it will beat a lot of cars on this forum:shrug:.

i think you should change the title to RAM drivers because a freind of mine has one of them and your description matches him perfectly:rlaugh:
:stupid:
Check out this Dakota 592 RWHP

I'm not trying to start an arguement, but I am a big Dodge fan. If they had a latemodel respectable V8 rear wheel drive when I bought my Stang, I would have gotten a Mopar. Also, the cummins in the Ram's always make more power than Ford or Chevy with only 6 cylinders.

The R/T stuff has always failed to impress me. All those 360's are rated at between 245-250 HP & 325-345 on TQ. That's just the factory ratings, not at the wheels. I give them credit for keeping it a pushrod motor .... but I'd take a Lightning over it anyday.

EDIT: just did a search. The R/T Durango's give you 12MPG from the factory with the 245 HP at the plate. Totally not worth it.

And they need to have the Rams dual exhaust with a better muffler or something. They are to damn quiet with the stock setup. With the right setup they can sound awsome. Its bad when a little pos 4 or 6 cyl car has duals and a big ass v8 truck has single.

Fire cheif has one with a glasspak after the cat split to duals and it sounds AWSOME. You can hear it coming down the street and you always know who it is. One of these days I need to get a vid of it for all of the glasspak nay sayers.

cummins will put all others to shame:hail2:

compared to the lightning, i think i would take a dakota r/t. sure stock for stock the lightning will be faster, but i like the dakota better. plus, my freinds looks absolutely amazing in amberfire:drool:

You guys are proving my point exactly. I start talking pick up trucks and what do I get? How fast they are or how the exhaust sounds. WHO CARES! ITS BUILT TO BE WORKED! You don't buy a pickup truck for exhaust tone, 1/4 mile speed, decal package, etc (lightnings and SRT-10s excluded... I never got the sport truck thing either:shrug: ). At least I don't anyways.

Only "TheDamned" has come back with a legit you are full of it and here's why response.

How much can you tow? Why am I wrong about these trucks? Consumer reports says Dodges are better, etc etc. I think I'm giving up as this is a lost cause.

You're absolutely right about the work trucks.. Ford and chevy really own that market up here in the north east. I hardly see any dodge work trucks. But we do own one lol (01 2500), and i hate it. We use it for mostly plowing which is does work great for, but the interior is horrible and the ride is so stiff i rather not drive it. The work truck i do drive on a regular basis is a chevy 3500 box van, now this truck is GREAT, the ride is so smooth, interior is decent and so on.

I really think dodge made a mistake not getting in on the "box van" market. They are getting super popular now with the tradesmen, and the only two places to get one is from chevy and dodge. They are pretty affordable too.

Oh yea adam, do u listen to WAAF 107.3 at all? THey had an afternoon DJ (neanderPaul) who owned a dodge pick up with the hemi. I cant tell you how many times he talked about it being so great and fast and bla bla bla. A member on the morning show ( L.B.) on that station owns a rubble b and would talk about all the HP it has and how fast it is as well. I remember one day someone wrote an email to him challenging him to a race for money against his lighting, of course L.B. backed down.

Every person I see driving a Dodge pickup is a complete tool. They all have these crappy 3-6 inch budget lifts (Not off-road capable at all) and 40 series flows, with Harley Davidson stickers on the rear window. I bet 90 percent of them have never been on a bike in their life. Big tires on stock rims that stick out way past the side panels. Bonus points for as many fox racing or "fear this" stickers as you can put on there.

To me, a Dodge truck is basically saying "I didn't want to buy a real work truck but I wanted to be a pickup driver so instead I bought the cheapest light duty truck I could." Go to a construction site sometime... how many real tradesman use Dodge trucks? None. You will see all F-series and Chevy/GMCs. (The imports are starting to make an impact too.)

Alright I'm done with my rant, I had to get that off my chest.

Adam

I agree fully.....I dont think all dodge drivers are tools.... .......but I do believe the trucks are junk.....there is a reason why a new dogde diesel option for option is about 8 grand cheaper than a ford or chevy. The cummins is nice, but the rest of the truck is junk.....and don't even get me started on all the yellow, lime green, purple, and orange "hemi" rumble bees....:nonono:

Well, if you want to talk about "work" ... I really like the Cummins. But I do agree on the typical owners there of.

There are rumors that Ford may do the Cummins thing in the near future ..... but I think they're just fine with the Navistar/International stuff. GM --- well, they've done pretty good with the Detroit/Isuzu Duramax --- they just need better trannys.

We're currently pulling our trailer with an F-350 with the Triton V-10. I think with load, it gets like 7 MPG, lol. Hopefully, we'll soon get an F-550 with a diesel.

I love my Blue Oval's.......but I have grown to respect the Dodge with the cummins engine in it.....just for fun google dodge race trucks and somewhere(I saw it the other day but can't remember the site) shows 1 cummins Dodge pulling a power stroked Ford backwards.....very easily...and another...and I hate to say it.....running a stang down in the 1/4 mile at 13.5.....and it was a 4 x4............

Those truck pulls are pretty cool to watch. But then again, there are so many factors that it doesn't really matter. From tire size .... tire tread ... gearing, etc. You would have to match everything like that up PERFECTLY on both trucks to determine the "real" winner power wise.

A truck doesn't just have to be for "work".

So, if you have a sports car do you need to only drive it on the weekends and drive it to it's fullest? Absolutely not.

Some people like trucks. Some people like their looks, the style, the way they sound. Same way with Mustangs. I'm sure there are threads somewhere that say "Every mustang driver I see is a tool".

I agree my first vehicle was a truck so I will always have one. I have always liked trucks. That and because of snow in the winter I need a 4x4. Also for hauling stuff don't do it often but when I do its nice to have a truck. I pull our camper with mine, tows great. And the couple reasons I ended up buying mine was because of the size. Its 4 door (2 full in front 2 halfs in back) it can seat like 6 people. I wanted this because of having a family in the future I wouldn't have to go buy something else to tote them around. Full size bed so I can haul my 4 wheeler (yes it will fit in a short bed but then thats all your getting in there).

And you can't go off roading in a Mustang

I listen to the morning show every day at work, and most of our crew listens to it in the field so I catch it all the time. I don't remember that, but I believe it. They kiss Erny Boch's ass due to all the perks he gives them... thats why they all buy Dodges and rave about them, they're getting them at cost.

If you ever have the radio on from 11PM till midnight, Mike Hsu does an hour of Harder Faster, you can actually hear some heavy stuff.

Its funny you say that, I've been noticing this for a while but the main reason I wrote this occurred last night around sundown. I was at a light in my F150 and got revved at by a "rumble bee" with a CONFEDERATE FLAG sticker on the back.

I'm just looking at the kid, my coworker is visibly laughing at him... my truck is covered in mud, I have a full load of wood in the back because I just helped chainsaw a fallen tree apart. (I do some tree work on the side, helps for gas/beer/GF money) Who revs at a couple guys obviously straight from a job site? This kid is in a pressed collared shirt with his hair spiked up. Obviously from the deep south, 10 bucks says he had Kenny Chesney playing... :nonono:

Yellow isn't my favorite color for a car in the first place. If its done right, it looks mint, but lets be honest... very few have pulled it off. A 1500 series truck in bright yellow? With black stripes and cartoons on the side? Fugly 20s? Thats got to be the worst looking truck I've ever seen.

Adam

LOL,yellow always screamed coward to me.You know the old saying hes yellow.Guess some thoughts never die.

Actually, this perfectly describes what I do.

The way I look at it, I would never buy a truck if I didn't need it. But I hunt, fish, camp, sail, do tree work, etc so its a must. In general, driving a pickup truck sucks. Awful on gas, PITA in traffic, PITA in parking lots, its tough for older passengers to get in, its tough for older dogs to get in (I take my dog with me all the time), and EVERY SINGLE relative will call you for help lugging/towing their crap and offer to pay you in lunch when you really just want gas money.

There are plenty of awd and 4x4 vehicles out there. In fact, if I wasn't into the outdoors as much as I am, my DD would be a WRX.

Maybe I'm being too practical? I only compromise form over function in two places - the Mustang and women.

Adam

The ONLY good thing about a dodge truck is the cummins.

The whole dual tail pipes on a pickup is to me the biggest trash statement a truck owner can make. 99% of them are just some stupid "car" guy in a truck with some glass packs (and they do sound like $ H ! T) thinking they are some kind of vett killer.

I have a personal theory about dodges in general.

90% of the time or so the person who is driving 10-15 under the speed limit, makes non-signal turns or lane changes, does this lane change as they cut across 4 lanes to make the exit the suddenly need, smoke large amounts from the tailpipes (going back to the dual tails this gets nasty at lights), and just a general problem on the roadways will be in a DODGE of some kind.

I have tested this over and over many ways...look at the traffic problems and almost always its a dodge. I for a month avoided the lane the dodges were in on my way to and from work...that ALONE took 10min. on avg. of my drive time going the same speed I always go (65-68) with a max time savings of 12min. on a 30min one way drive. Not to mention the stress from the less headache of dealing with this problem...go test it.

haha the their morning show is great. But i must admit i no longer listen to them. I picked up a sirius satelite radio and im hooked on uncensored stern and all their music channels. Its prefect for all the driving i do for work..
