I can get a small discount from MU on their hoods and they are local. I did a serach, but didnt come back with any definitive answers on the quality of their fiberglass hoods. Has anyone had any experience with them?

I am debating whether or not to spend the extra $175 (shipping costs) on a Mustang Depot hood, or to just pickup an MU hood local.

opinions?

What year car do you have? I have a 3" crowl hood still in the box from Mustang Plus for a 68. It was good quality fit and finish, but I didn't like the look of it over the stock hood with a small scoop so its collecting dust out in the barn. I could make you a good deal on it and your close enough to drive up here to look at it.

I got the hood for my 66 from MU, 2.5" 'glass cowl induction. Fit was pretty good, fairly straight/non-wavy, the underside is un-finished glass hair (similar to the backside of a shower, but not as coarse). The hood skin is attached to what looks like a plastic frame, patterned after the stock frame, but its all cut out under the raised portion of the hood. In spite of the plastic frame, the hood is real strudy and well made. I use a prop rod instead springs, the hood has not warped and doesn't flex much at all. It came with a nice thick gelcoat finish, most of the irregularities can be smoothed by sanding the gelcoat alone. Top side will require moderate work for a show quality job, bottom side will require a good bit of work if you want it to look really nice. Mines a street car, so I put a glaze coat of filler on the top side, sanded it down, and it was good. I didn't touch the bottom of the hood.

Are you lookin for a steel hood of fiberglass hood? You should try to see who supplys the hoods to MU. I know mustang plus gets them from Maier Racing. And Mustang Depot also carrys Maier Racing hoods (along with Fiberglass Specialties hoods). I got a Maier Hood, it seems to be ok but i have yet to install it.

when I got my hood from them, the box was labeled as some non-descript company, like auto specialties or something like that. No mention of maier, etc. FWIW...that was about 5 years ago, so it may have changed.

allcarfan, I purchased one from MU last year. I got the 67 Shelby style scooped hood for my 65 fastback. It fit pretty well. As mentioned above, the gel coat was nice and thick. I had to do a little work on it, but nothing major. I use a prop rod as well. The only complaint I have is that it does not have the proper "bow" in it side to side. Meaning it looks too flat and a little low in the middle of the back of the hood near the cowl. It looks better than any real Shelby hoods I've seen though ! I also understand from people who own real Shelbys that when restoring their cars, they often turn the hood upside down, supported on the sides by saw horses, and put 30 or 40 lbs of weight in the middle of the hood for up to a few months to give it the proper bow. It will then have the proper "memory" and look right. I am happy with mine though. Just being picky ! Here's a pic.
