HELP! Anyone near Ft. Lewis!?

98Snakebite:
you said the cams are a direct replacement, would it be a power increase to put the 351 cam in the 302?
im not sure if i understand what you wrote right... are you saying the 302 heads are smaller or the 351? and if the 351's are smaller, could i use them on the 302 and just get a bigger lower intake manifold?

Changing the cams is kind of a crapshoot if you don't know what they came from. It is hard to say which is better, depends on the year and aftermarket or not.

The 302 and 351s usually have the same head. The one exception worth noting is the 69 351 heads that had factory sodium filled valvles. Dimensionally all heads used on 255-289-302-351 windsors are the same and therefore interchangeable. The main thing is you have to use a 351 intake and pushrods with a 351 block and 302 intake and pushrods with a 302 block.

Clear as mud I know. Welcome to Ford small-blocks.

Greetings Tyler,
Yup here I am. Great site. Thanks for the referal!!
And thank you guys for the advice.
BTW Tyler, sice you are here, if you could give a decent description of the overall condition of the car so that the guys that might help me will have a good idea where to start?
Thanks

Well, I did sell it for a reason ;)

Seriously, The body is in decent shape as is the interior.

I have no experience with the car itself beyond the joy of seeing it every time I walked out my front door and hearing my wife endlessly complain about the "symbol of white trash" and "when are you going to get rid of that thing?"

The previous owner claimed that it was running and that he was going to sell the engine by itself until I came along and said "sure, I will take the car AND the engine" so he tossed it all back together and towed it to my place for free.

I honestly know minimal about the car except the painfully obvious. It is red, it is a Mustang, it once was a 4 banger, it has a V8 in it.

My best guess is that someone with mechanical skills and the desire to do so could potentially have a running car after a weekend of working on it.

that project sure looks more like a 1-2 week project than a 1-2 day one:shrug: Even the simple little stuff can turn into a huge time kill, trust me I have been there:bang:

Good luck on the project though, the end result always feels awesome.

Also if you place the car at Ft. Lewis do it yoursef shop, I believe its like 2 dollars a day? I can swing by for maybe an hour a day and help you out.

P.S. You have tomarrow off, get to work:p

all the time in the world

well thank you Tyler for that dashing speech, couldnt have put it better myself!
Well I was planning on taking to the Auto Hobby Shop, and yes it is $2 a day. Any time you could spend would be great.

And yes it has a C4 in it.

I really have no idea where to begin. I got the alt. from the car yesterday and had it tested. Its fine, except that the bearings in it make some noise.

Here's a quick question for you Army guys. This is my first PCS move, and they had to put my stuff in storage. If i contact them, will they let me get just some stuff out? Not too clear on that, and I cant ever seem to get a hold of them! I seriously waited on hold for 23 mins the other day before i said the hell with it. Now im up in Oak Harbor and no where hear the base, so i cant just drop them a line, and i wont be back that way till next friday! *sigh*

Well, if there is anyone else on or around Ft. Lewis that will give me a hand, please let me know!@!

Nope, all your stuff is in a container that is locked, what you need to do is go to the Gypso(sp) Housing inbound office in person and schedule a delivery date. Your chian of command should be all over this. Matter of fact when you spent the first week @ Ft. Lewis inprocessing at Waller Hall, you should have already talked with someone about this:shrug: Just ask one of your NCO's and they will take care of you.

Anyone busy this weekend?

Well, as of this weekend ( the one coming up) I plan on getting the stang transported to its not so permanent home of Ft. Lewis Auto Hobby Shop. If anyone might want to give me a hand in getting a jusp start on this "HAND FULL" of a project, I would be more than gratful. Please let me know ASAP, so I can make accomidations for you. I hope I can get at least 1 or 2 people to give me a hand with this.

Tylers65, I plan on having the locksmith there Friday sometime, and if all goes well, your wife will stop the "polite" chatter and be off your back about it.
I know that the theory of"whatever can go wrong, WILL go wrong" so I hope this goes off without any complications.

Oh, and bye the bye... does anyone have or know someone who has a tow dolly or flatbed that would like to earn a little extra cash come this Friday? Please let me know ASAP also, so that i can get with them.

Thank you, that will be enough from this peanut gallery.
