Stage 2 Cams with or w/o aftermarkets heads Increase

from what ive seen, stg II cams gain a small amount more than stg I, about 5 more, but lose a lot more torque down low. i remember seeing a dyno of a set of stg II cams where the guy was super excited that he gained like 31 rwhp peak, but i kept thinking it wasnt worth it b/c his dyno sheet showed a loss of like 10-20 torque throughout the RPM range

yea i am installing my comp custom grinds sunday through whenever we get done lol but yea w/stage 2's you'll have to do valve springs im having to mine are pretty much a stage 2 the 2's will make more i the top end but they will loose low end tq but when you are racing you wont be in the low end very much so remember that

my numbers are in my sig.

i gained 35rwhp but i have both heads and cams.

as more people get cams around here and im seeing the numbers, im starting to think my heads helped out greatly.

i used to think most of my gain was from the cams but now im not sure. i think the heads really helped in the 35rwhp gain.

Gained 23 rwhp with just Stage II's...stock heads, Bullitt intake, stock headers. Keep in mind that I have an auto, so for a stick, that would be more like 26 or so.
Anyhow, my dyno sheet did not show any losses worth mentioning. Additionally, Stage II's make power in a higher rpm band. That is the chief difference from Stage I's.
You should also consider the fact that when you're racing, you never really drop below 3500 rpm, so any losses below that range aren't very important. In fact, I personally like that fact that my car is pretty tame down low, but wakes right up the moment I mash my foot to the board! ;) Both the wife and the 17 year old son can drive it without fear of losing it around a corner.

what kind of heads?

EDIT: nevermind :)

all of you guys sayin that there was a loss of tq in the stage II cams, why is that surprising? theyre pretty much blower cams. get a blower and it will easially make up the difference.

Not true! Blower cams have a WAY less overlap than my n/a Stage II's. (108* vs. 113+*)

Any loss of power down low is due to the slowing down of the charge air speed. The larger the opening, the slower the air speed will be. It's a trade-off. You get good power where you're actually using it, and give some away where you don't really care about.

how often do you race on the street? for just daily driving, you will sacrifice some power

Alright... mine is MMR Stg 3 heads, and Comp Stg 3 Cam... w/ 242/246 on a 113 LSA. It's being put in right now as i type...the main difference between stg 2's and 3's is where the power is and how much is made... I'm goin to be spinning mine over 7500RPM just right for the Stg 3's... also I'm glad mine is going to be Tame (a lil less trq) down low, easier to drive and not to crazy. It will lope alot from what they tell me, but that is WHY i bought Stg 3's... also if I'm lacking trq or Hp down low 2500RPM or so... that's what my 150 dry shot is for...
You have to research and buy what your going to use... I'm goin to race.... NEVER ON THE STREET!!! :rlaugh: :hail2:

So buy accordingly!
