I just picked up my car from the shop just now,i got ford motorsport 4.10's and rebuilt my trac-lock while i was at it. As soon as i backed up i heard some small noises that sounded like marbles hitting each other in liquid sorta. The when i went forward it was gone,i noticed after that when i turned slow the noise came back.Is this normal cause they aren;'t broken in yet?. Just trying to make sure nothing is wrong. Kinda sound like minor grinding i guess. I was going to take my car on the highway at 60 mph later on for 20 mins or so to see if i break them in.I haven't hit the gas har at all btw. I drove soo slow on the way home, acutually i drove 40 mph but i hardly pressed the gas. The car hardly has first gear now and second,so the gear changed pretty quick,i did get the speedo gear changed as well if anybody was wondering. So whats the verdict?is this noise normal at first?

no - not normal - just did my gears - new FMS 3.73's. and complete rear rebuild with all bearings, seals, posi clutches (extra one added) synthetic 75w90 oil etc... no noises - just like it always was. Yours sounds like something was left improperly tightened - hopefully someone else will have ideas

I'm back from a drive on the expressway,i dorve about 70 mph average while just pressing the pedal lightly, and now the noise is gone,i guess the lube had to get all over the gears. The noise is completly gone after a 30 min expressway drive. I'm letting it rest now for like 2 or more hours and maybe take it out again to see if the noise is gone. I'm amzed at the power i can almost feel since i haven't pressed the pedal far enough yet, but the gear change very quickly now. Hope all is well with the gears when i check later. I'm still going to go by the shop anyways cause i have to get my key for my lugnut that i lift there. I'll keep ya posted.

This is why I'am scared of geting gear's!!

Don't be afraid of changing gears...it is THE BEST bang for buck mod...I've changed mine twice now...the only prob i had is i put a used set in an got a little gear whine at around 70....i'm hoping it goes away after breaking in some. I got a used set of 373's from an explorer...next time i'll shell out the extra for new gears...

I'm going to be putting my gears in myself. First time ever doing gears. :D

Basically, any noise coming from the rear end is not a good thing. Glad to hear that yours came out of it, hopefully nothing is damaged.

did they not soak the clutches before putting them in? Sounds like that could be the problem as well. When you get them warmed up the oil should get in there pretty good. Either way. dry clutches are not good. Hope it is ok.

Yeah man, like was said earlier gears are a great mod, worth every penny. Only thing that pissed me off was my axles are on their way out so by the time I get everything right I could've just bought a whole new rear end, stuck some control arms in and been a lot better off while still keeping the stock rear end. Gears shaved .4 off my 1/8th time, and I think it's got more in it if I can just get better weather and more seat time. Most shops will do a good job at getting your gears fixed right, and if there not right they will usually fix it for you. I wouldn't be scared at all, only fear I had was not having a car for the next day.

Sometimes when you first get going I've heard the trac-lok will pop a little bit but then it should go away fairly quickly. If the shop done a test drive (which they should to be sure it's set up right) you shouldn't have any noises when you get it back. If it comes back I'd have it checked out.
